  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I've heard plenty of testimonies throughout my life from people with physical disabilities. However, I have not heard very many testimonies from the mentally disabled. Has anyone got a testimony of how Christ has helped someone through a mental disorder like bipolar, schizophrenia, mental retardation, etc.

I do not know if this is a testimony, but a few months ago I hit bottom. With over six mental illnesses I could barely move anymore - my mind was in constant panic and nothing could turn off the thoughts. Not medication, not counseling, nothing. One night I couldn't take it anymore. I laid in bed one night and cried because I couldn't stop the pain. That night I surrendered to Christ. I asked for him to lead me back to him. Since then, things have gotten much better. I now trust that God is looking over me and going to lead me out of this hole. Though my faith is still rocky, I'm working on it. I've been watching a lot of religious shows and movies, as well as reading religious books, in hopes to better understand him. Tomorrow will be my first visit to a church in ages and I'm looking forward to it.

I have a testimony that I do not want to share because, while I am being treated for a mental illness, there is prejudice against the sanity of what I say for Christ that will prevent most from hearing what I say. What I am saying is that I do not want to share because I want to save my energy until people will listen. (There is a spiritual reason why people do not listen to crazy people who admit they are crazy, but I do not want to go into it).

That said, I can say that the best advice you can give someone who is "mentally ill" is to be sad. If you are sad, you will be blessed (Jesus said blessed are those who mourn, for you shall be comforted). I say be sad and not "mourn" because you can die from mourning, which, even though you are comforted, is not the best thing. That is probably saying too much... anyway, the point is that if you are sad, you can be blessed and if you can be blessed, you can heal. Regardless of whether the doctors think I am well or not, I know that being sad has helped me - if you are really true to yourself (which I try to be) there is no way to be mad and sad at the same time.

(Notice Jesus' words in the middle of what I say? They are what you should be listening to).
