  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Im sorry but i think i spelled her last name wrong but anyone who has been following the news knows that she passed away this morning..and i wanted to know if this should be looked upon as murder.

for those of you who are not aware what i am talking about terry was a woman who suffered sever brain damage about 12 years ago due to lack of oxygen for an extended period of time and have been in a semi vegetative state since then. She has been using a feeding tube to keep her alive. although some doctors say she was responsive to certain things. (example..she opened her eyes when instructed to, and she could tell the difference between her parents and was aware when people entered her room.)

about a week or two ago her husband ordered the doctors to take her off of the feeding tube. her parents fought to keep her alive but courts gave the final decision to her husband. some little facts about him are: he is currently living with another woman with whom he has children. If terry were to pass he would recieve a large amount of money not to mention the 2 million dollars he was given to put terry in rehab. (which he never did). terry's parents offered him 1 million dollars to give them power over the decision to whether they should take terry off of the feeding tube or not.

would you want to be kept alive..why or why not?
do you think her husband did what he did for the money?
Was what happened considered murder?

I don't see how it can possibly be murder unless it can be shown that there was some associated criminal activity on Michael Schiavo's part - the abuse that has been alleged, for example. Absent that, this is really no different from any other case wherein a family member must make a decision via power of attorney to continue or terminate life support.

If we start criminalizing such activity based solely or largely on our emotional reactions, we invite fascism.
