• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

1 Cor 10:13 No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.

Is there someone that can break this down a little to help me understand this scripture? Examples would help as well. Thanks

"No temptation has seized you except what is common to man."
Temptation a person face is the same one that all of human race has had to deal with.
"And God is faithful;"
You can trust God, for he will never forsaken you.
"he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear."
God knows a person's limits and what their spirit can handle.

The book of Job is an excellent example. The devil accused Job of cursing God's name if God allowed the devil to afflict Job. Devil couldn't do anything to Job without his permission.
"But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it."
Every time the devil tempts a child of God to sin, the Lord has always provided a way out of that temptation.

So ultimately, the more mature a Christian becomes, more likely to become sinless. For they know the can overcome the temptation by the power of Christ Jesus.

In spite of that verse there are times when people are overwhelmed by events. Context is important. Paul was discussing Israel and how the people turned away from God in the desert when things were hard. Thus Paul was in effect saying something like this: "In tough times don't get distracted from your commitment to following Jesus". He knows what you are going through and will be there with you during those times". It appears some of the new Christians were facing hard times and were thinking about returning to the gods they previously followed, maybe due to economic pressure or becasue of very upset masters who still followed a pagan religion.

Johnnz thanks for that point. I didn't study the context related to the verse.

I totally agree and I think you said it best

appears some of the new Christians were facing hard times and were thinking about returning to the gods they previously followed

Seems that was what Paul was warning the Corinthian church about. And the scripture encourages you to hang in there and let Christ lead us out of our bondage for good.
