Since not one of us is exempt from temptation whether you're a believer or not I thought I'd post some things my pastor preached about this subject. Forgive me if it gets too long but he had a lot of things to say and I take really good notes!!

God will test you to see what you're made of. To see how close you are to Him. To better our relationship w/ Him.

James 1:2 My bretheren count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.

It is inevitable that we will be tempted; even those wjo love God and are saved can fall to temptation. However we will be rewarded for not succumbing to temptation. Love for GOd should keep us from temptation.

God will not tempt you to do wrong. It's our flesh side that sins. He will however ALLOW us to be tempted.
Job-tempted to deny God
Moses-tempted to mar his testimony
David-tempted by Bathsheba
Daniel-tempted to deny God
Jesus-tempted to yield in the weakness of His flesh.

Satan is the solicitor of temptation- he uses doubt, deception and desire

Satan knows what our own personal bait is to pull us to temptation.

Temptation is an individual matter. Our personal desire will cause us to be drawn away and be enticed.

Now that I've said all that I'll post another thread on how to overcome temptation!!

AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME,

Thanks for the post.
I have to add to this as well:
1 Cor. 10:13 No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.

The way out of temptation is to run to Jesus, put your faith and trust in Him. We must realize that He is our all in all. If our focus drifts and moves to other things, other than Christ, then He is faithful to us to 'remind' us who our first love is.

Praise God!

I was just reflecting on this verse as well from Romans 7:

I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate. Now if I do what I do not want, I agree that the law is good. But in fact it is no longer I that do it, but sin that dwells within me. For I know that nothing good dwells within me, that is, in my flesh. I can will what is right, but I cannot do it. For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I do. Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I that do it, but sin that dwells within me.

So I find it to be a law that when I want to do what is good, evil lies close at hand. For I delight in the law of God in my inmost self, but I see in my members another law at war with the law of my mind, making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members. Wretched man that I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord!

yeah, were all tempted,
i just thankgod that he provided a way out of every temptation, and promised to make our way perfect, and our feet like hinds feet, so that we dont fall, in the psalms.

i thank God that no one has ever been obligated to live in sin after being changed by God.

im glad that romans 7 may have been a part of someones life, but according to the rest of the bible, it is by no means our obligation.
becuase he tells us to be perfect, and says we can be.

One thing that I like to do is preventative maintenance. Praying on the armor of God every morning. Acknowledging that only God can protect us and keep us from sin. That He has a way out. Without our armor we don't have a chance.

Keeping our eyes, our focus on God is of utmost importance. Doing everything for the glory of God. Involving Him in every aspect of your life. Praying about all things. That is a excellent way to fight temptation and reduce the oppertunities for attack.

I agree that God will help us resist sin, but living a sinless life is still difficult if not impossible. I find that even though I am living under God's grace I continue to sin against god, by what I have done and by what I have left undone (to quote the BCP). I still need to confess my sins, repent and pray for God's help. I can see improvement, but I don't think I will ever completely overcome sin while living in this fallen world.
