In the book of Acts we are given the story of Paul, and the Tempest at Sea. I believe there is alot more to this story than meets the eye, as I also believe in it we are given prophecy of the last days. I would like to explore some of these deeper spiritual things in this story of the Tempest at Sea.
Chapter 27. In this chapter we see that Paul remains a prisoner and it is determined that he should sail to Italy with certain other prisoners under one named Julius, a centurion of Augustus. The ship sails to Sidon, and then Myra; then they change ships in Alexandria that would take them to Italy. Before they leave Paul advises the captain and crew that he perceived the voyage of this ship will end with much damage, not only to the rigging of the ship, but their lives will be in danger also. But the centurion believed the master of the ship over what Paul had spoken to him.
A few days later just as Paul had warned, the boat ran into a tempest wind that threatened to damage the ship. They tried to lighten the ship but it did not help, the storm tossed the ship for several days. On the third day they tossed the tackling of the ship, but when the sun or stars was not seen for several days most had given of hope of survival. After a long period of silence Paul stood up and said, Sirs you should have hearkened unto me, and not have loosed from Crete, to have suffered this loss and harm. But Paul informs them to be of good cheer because there was to be no loss of life among them, only the loss of the ship. Paul tells them; for there stood by me this night the angel of God, whose I am, and whom I serve, saying fear not, Paul; thou must be brought before Caesar: and lo, God has given thee all that sail with thee.
Paul told them they must be cast upon some island, and on the 14th night, about midnight they drew near to some unknown country. They sounded and found it 20 fathoms, or 120 feet, they sounded again and found it 15 fathoms, or 90 feet, then fearing they would hit the rocks they cast out 4 anchors, and wished for the day. Certain shipmen were ready to jump ship, but Paul warned the centurion of the soldiers, except the men abide in the ship, they cannot be saved. While the day was coming on, Paul besought them all to take meat, saying this day is the 14th day that you have waited, and continued fasting, having taken nothing. Wherefore I pray you to take some meat: for this is for your health: for there shall not a hair fall from your head any of you. And when Paul had spoken he took bread, and gave thanks to God in the presence of them all: and when he had broken it he began to eat. Then they were all in good cheer, and they also took some meat. In the ship there were a total of 276 souls, and when they had eaten enough they had cast off the wheat into the sea.
Before we go any further lets look at some of these numbers we are given. First notice Paul said they would be cast upon some small island; I believe this is symbolic of the short season of the beast. This sign is also shown in John 21:8 when after Peter had cast himself in the sea, the other disciples came in a little ship. Notice they were 200 cubits from land, or about 3600 inches, or 300 feet. If you divide 1980 years by 3600 you get .55; which is the sign of 10 times. And if you divide 1980 years by 300 you get 6.6 which also shows a fulfilling of time.
Back in Acts 27:27 are told it was the 14th night that the shipman estimated they drew near to land. I believe the Lord is showing the number 14 to show a completion of time, to complete the days of separation as seen in the law. In Leviticus 26:18 the Lord told the children of Israel that if they did not hearken unto Him that He would punish them 7 times more for their sins.
But the Lord also said in Isaiah 40:2 that his people had recieved double at his hand for all her sins. This sign of 7 times and 7+7 times= 14 is shown in the law of cleansing, and days of separation for the man-child and the maid-child in Leviticus chapter 12.
Also In Ezekiel 43:17 we see the design of the settle upon the altar; it is 14 cubits square, or 14x4 or a total of 56. Notice the Lord told Ezekiel in 43:13 the measure shall be a cubit and a handbreadth; which I believe to be the Lords cubit. Some will say this measure is 21 inches, but I believe it to be 22 inches. If you take 56 cubits times 22 you get 1232; divide that by 7 times and you get 176; or 88 twice. We see the importance of this number in Deuteronomy 22:17 with the amount of money to be paid by the accuser to the Father of his virgin daughter. After the Father has shown the blood proof, which are the tokens of his daughters virginity, then the accuser is to be fined 100 shekels of silver; which is $176.00. This price is double the estimation price of the man of war seen in Leviticus 27:3; which is set at $88.00. Keep in mind the amount paid for the blood of Jesus was 30 shekels; or $52.80. If you divide 176.00 by 52.80 you get 3.33; which is a sign of the Lords 3 portions, or third parts
In Acts 27:28 we see they sounded once at 20 fathoms, and another time at 15 fathoms; a fathom is 6 feet. If you divide 120 feet by 90 feet you get 1.333, which is also showing a completion of time. If you divide 1333 in half you get 666, which is also a sign of the falling away point and mark of the beast. Also if you divide 1333 into 3 parts( as is shown in Matthew 13:33) you will get the sign 444.
Also if you subtract the 15 fathoms from 20 fathoms, you get 5, which I believe shows a space between time, like 5 cubits; which I also believe is the sign of the Lords fifth part. In the feast of trumpets there is a space of time between the 10th day, or Day of Atonement, and the 15th day; which begins the feast of Tabernacles. In John 6:19 we see Jesus came to his disciples about the space of 5 and 20 or 30 furlongs. A furlong is the 8th part of a mile, or 5280 feet divided by 8 gives you 660. If you divide the year 1980 by 30 furlongs you get 66; but keep in mind the start time of the New Covenant(new meat offering) did not start until the death of the testator, or Jesus; who was about 33.7 years old at the time of his death. If you were to add 33 years to the year 1980 you will get 2013.
There were 276 men on the ship, but remember part were slaves, and part were soldiers. If you remember Julius was a centurion, meaning he was over 100 soldiers, subtract 100 from 276, and you get 176 enslaved, which shows the 2 portions(double portion) of the man, or 88 plus 88 equals 176(as I showed above.)
If you divide 176 by the 4 anchors that held the ship steady you get 44, which is a penny worth; or the 4th part of an shekel of silver. The money paid for the blood of Jesus to Judas was $52.80, just like a mile is 5,280 feet; divide 5280 by that 44 you get 120. The Lord said his Spirit would not always strive with man, but the number of his years shall be 120.
In Revelations 6:6( notice the verse number) we see 3 measures of barley are to be sold for a penny and one measure of wheat for a penny. So this is 4 parts total for just 2 penny worth, or .88 cents. We see the meaning of this sign in Exodus 30:13 with the ransom money that is given for the atonement of the soul, when the Kingdom is numbered. The amount is a half a shekel, or .88 cents which shall be the offering unto the Lord. This shows the Day of Atonement, and the portion of the body that is to be broken.
Remember what happened when David numbered Israel, and what happened after Babylon was numbered? The Lord gave a sign to the Nations(Isaiah 11:12) and the small Island was reformed in 1948. If you add 66 years(blood of purification) to 1948 you will get 2014; I believe between now and then the wheat shall be cast off the ship. I also believe this is when the fourth part shall be given unto the power of the fourth horseman (Revelation 6:8).
Now when they had taken up the anchors, they committed themselves unto the sea. The loosing of the 4 anchors is like the 4 angels at the 4 corners of the earth fixing to loose the wind in Revelation 7:1. In Acts 27:41 it says they fell into a place where 2 seas met(former, and latter) and ran the ship aground. You ever notice how Israel is set between the seas?
In Mark 11:4 we see a sign of the parting of 2 ways with the 2 asses that were loosed at the parting of 2 ways. These 2 asses also show how Jesus( the very Word of God) would come into this world riding on the backs of a stiff-necked hardheaded people. This sign was also shown in Mary, whose name means rebellious.
Notice the prophecy of Zechariah 9:9, and also notice the verse number. In this prophecy we see a dual prophecy because we note that the King shall come in riding upon an ass, and upon a colt, the offspring of an ass. This offspring of the ass is the latter day Israel, and is in place right now. In Exodus 13:13 we see the Lord said he would not accept the firstling of the ass unless it was redeemed with a lamb. The Lord has made this redemption possible with his own Lamb of sacrifice in Jesus Christ.
This time of parting of 2 ways is also given in Ezekiel 21:21 when the king of Babylon stood at the parting of 2 ways, to use divination; also notice the verse number. This parting of 2 ways has happened before at the time of Christs crucifixion; one way ended and another way began at that point in time. Just as in that time the evil one was waiting to swallow up the man-child when he was brought forth.
Notice in Acts 27:41 it says the forepart of the vessel stuck fast, and remained unmovable, but the hinder part was broken with violence of the waves. The forepart represents the early days of Christianity, and how those who were the first ripe of the first fruits stood fast in their faith, even unto death. The hinder part are those in the last days who shall be tossed about by every wave of doctrine, and shall be broken and suffer great loss because of their lack of faith.
Stand fast in your faith, and be founded on that good foundation, even the Rock of the Lord.
