Just thought it would be fun to learn a little about each other's locations.
What is your state or country/province known for?

I live in Maine. We use to be part of Massachusetts.
We are known for our Maine lobsters and Maine potatoes and Maine blueberries.

We have one of the two shipbuilding yards which vie for federal destroyer contracts. The other is in Mississippi.

We have had two Independent governors.
And the percentage of people who voted for Ross Perot was the greatest of ANY state EVER.

I live in south eastern Manitoba. On a highway, swamp land it is! In the winter it can reach -50 with windchill and in the summer the temperature can soar to 110. Living in a small highway village with a population of 20+ you can be things that you can't normally be in heavily populated cities.

For one, I am the village strong man and the handsomest man in the area! I'm also the self-proclaimed village Policeman/Fireman/SWAT/Spetsnaz unit. Of course one time there was a serious issue in town, a truck driver lost his rigging gear straps and of course, guess who comes the the rescue? Thats right. Me, the village Policeman/Fireman/SWAT/Spetsnaz unit. The offical village Reeve (thats a mayor for small towns) lives across the road from me. I wish to challange him to a wrestling match for his reeve status for complete town dominiance.... then once I win and that is done... my plans will go in effect.

I'm from Southwestern New York. Some seem to have the idea that all of New York state is one big city, but in my area we have more cows than people. I live on the outskirts of a small town of about 600 people, and there isn't a Starbucks in a 50 mile radius (if not more). :)

Hi Tripty--we practically live next to each other! I'm in central, southern tier of New York. The town I grew up in still doesn't have a stop light and I only graduated with 44 people in my class. But, like Tripty states, most people you meet outside of this general vacinity go, "Wow, what's it like living in that big city?"

Couldn't tell you. ;)

Mile-High City and gateway to the Rocky Mountains and Colorado, home of Pikes Peak, Mt. Evans and other 14K high mountains as well as the Maroon Bells, Aspen, Vail, and many ski resorts.

Colorado also the home of many sand dunes complete with dinosaur bones

Curiously, there's a moderate chance that my company, Northrup Grumman, is involved with the ship-building near Caitlin.

I am talking about BIW, Bath Iron Works. I am not sure who currently owns them.
They have been bought and sold many times. Could be your company.

My father retired from there as well as two of my uncles.
Both of my brothers spent a summer or two there.
And some cousins have or still work there.
It is the largest employer in Maine before or after State government, I forget.

I live in Southern California.

Famous for DISNEYLAND (which I haven't been to since I was 10)!

We also have great beaches, South Coast Plaza (most expensive mall on this freaking planet), Seaworld San Diego, and a Starbucks conveniently located on every block.

Also the home of Saddleback church which I also attend.

I love it here! Right now I wouldn't trade it for any other place on Earth. Except for a secluded island in the South Caribbean...

I'm from New Zealand. Famous for sheep. Sir Edmund Hilary (the first guy to climb Mt Everest). The All Blacks (rugby). The first country to have the woman vote. Pot Pourri. And various other things.

Specifically I'm from Auckland, which is basically like a mini-america in the city areas.

More specifically I'm from South Auckland, which is again like a mini-america, however it's in the bad way. Gangs and violence and what have you. But South Auckland is like the home of Hip-Hop in NZ.

Well I am from Florida and we are famous for old people and oranges. Thats right, they have all the fun in CA then they some how are magnetically attracted to FL. I dont understand it, but this state must be the sitting on the largest natural deposit of Metamusal in the world. As for my part of Florida we are famous for the redneck. Now I dont mean the extremist ones, but there is a Tractor Supply Company just down the street from my house if that paints a picture. Infact I know a friend who has more car parts in his yard than most dealerships have in their cars.

Edmonton, Alberta!

Alberta is home of course to the Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames.

Famous for... um... the Calgary Stampede. And having the weirdest Premiere of all the Canadian provinces... but we keep electing him anyway!

Oh yeah we have Banff and Jasper here, which are famous resorts in the mountains. Banff is canada's favourite location for things like G8 Summits and celebrity vacations.

and then there's Alberta Beef! :)

Southwestern Illinois (Stl. metro area)

Mostly farm country, high priced houses in the suburbs. Lot of restaurants (Fairview heights has enough restaraunts to eat out 3 times a day for a month and not hit the same one.....) The most screwed up court system ever (St. Clair county: They will fight to the death to get you on speeding, but will let you walk on DUI)

I live in Brighton in England. England is known for its rain. Brighton is known for its beaches.

Originally I'm from Essex, in England - known for girls with blonde bubble perms and high pitched accents and white stilletos, and boys who wear Ben Sherman shirts, gold jewellery and cars with blue lights underneath them! Nice!

A country and a city state. Famous for being very clean and relatively safe and efficient environment. Fast paced life as a result. Lee Kwan Yew. Goh Chok Tong. The first country to adopt a driverless mass rapid transit train system. One of the most popular airports and shipping ports in the world. And famous for being a dot on the world map.
