Here's something I can share: I took piano lessons for almost eight years, but I never learned to properly read music.

My teacher would play songs for me before teaching me how to play them. I would listen to her and mimic her. This got me into trouble when I was 16 and studying more difficult pieces; she would ask me to start from random places in the piece but since I couldn't read the music, I wouldn't know which part she wanted me to play. Busted.

Also, I am considering buying a flute and learning to read basic music for that.

I play Trombone (specifically Bass Trombone). I can only read Bass Cleff music. I get extremely confused reading the more common Treble Cleff.

Which leads to another fun fact: despite being a mediocre player at best, I made All State in high school because so few people play Bass Trombone, there wasn't much competition.

So amazing to hear people contemplating retirement at 55, since I am 65 and still working.

I attribute it to my many years at a stay-at-home mom, giving music lessons or freelancing for newspapers.

When you haven't worked full-time between the ages of 25 and 58, it must take more than 7 years to burn out.

But I am so blessed. With a thirty-hour schedule, I can have three day weekends whenever I want, and with lots of flexibility, I can get some extra days off here or there if my retired husband wants to travel (his 50 year HS reunion is coming up, and we are going to Asia this summer).

I'm up to the point where 20 hours would make me happier, but I don't think I could go down to zero.

Other things:

-I played the violin for about 6 years and also played the ocarina in free time at home.

-I like calligraphy; right now I am practicing Greek Uncial calligraphy style that is found in the Codex Sinaiticus.

-I like building models, mostly Zoids but have also done cars in the past.

-I like collecting antiques, especially old Bibles.

What's a zoid?

They are snap-together models that look like robotic animals; it's also a Japanese anime series. I started building these models in middle school and must have collected between 60-70 individual models all through high school. Sadly, I decided to get rid of the large majority of my collection, but I still keep a few and even have another model I have not put together yet.

Looking now at the prices of models I kept they can run anywhere between $50-$300. Many of them are collectors items now.

I can't even whistle!

I used to be unable to.
Not sure what changed, but I can now.

Collectors items? Aww crud.
My brother used to have one around the time it was a new thing, I think it died the death of a thousand pieces(AKA falling off a desk).
Never watched the show, but the models were impressive.

I have a few Armored Core models, but then I've always been fond of massive mechs.
Also used to collect Warhammer 40,000 table top game models, primarily to play against my brother with, but I came to despise how awful my ones came out.

I can only snap my fingers on my right hand and not my left.
I'm the reverse.

I eat my pizza with a fork. I cut it with a fork. I can't stand to pick up food in my hands.
That reminds me, I've never gotten around to eating an Indian curry with my (right)hand.
I want to see if it adds anything to the experience eating it the traditional way.

It is 8:10 at night and I am cooking supper - scrambled eggs (from the backyard) with chunks of ham steak, green peppers, onion, coconut oil and Louisiana hot sauce. Reviews to follow.

Great, now I'm hungry...
