just a warning, it's very bizarre.

but it's not offensive.

Marriage of Despair

It's supposed to resemble on of those new-age spoken word songs mixed with one of those weird minimal techno groups.

I'd recommend you go listen to some live pan drum performances. I think it will give you a lot of ideas... to me, the pan drum sounds you chose are too synthetic, or if they are live, way over processed. From what I remember... they were a real bear to record as well, thats why I suggest live. I haven't listened to pan drums for 20 years.... but your music sure brought back memories. One of my classmates used to build them, and listening to him play was an amazing experience.

Perhaps there is someone on the forum from Trinidad who can shed some light on the matter.

I'm not saying you need live pan drums.... but to listen to a live performance. It can give you ideas to modify your sounds to be more lifelike. Once you hear them, you will understand what I'm getting at.

i've done songs that sound like it's live.

but i didn't want it to sound like that.

i'll add the live effect to the drum tracks, and see how i like it.

if i like it, i might keep it.

and simply saying, "It needs work" doesn't help.

Ahh, you want advice along with criticism.

First off, the drums, as stated above, sound very synthetic and unrealistic. And the pan effect was very... annoying? Wearing headphones probably didn't help either...

For the arrangment, it seemed very messy. Other similar music I've heard like this had some sort of system to the beat. This reminded me of my 5 year old cousin beating my drums. No order to it.

Atonal, and random event music is still a valid art form, its not my preference, but if someone enjoys it, more power to them. However, the chances of it being widely accepted is low, and the more random it is, the lower the likelyhood imho. Still music is a creative endeavor, and it demonstrates diversity in God's creation... not unlike some sectors of modern visual art.

I tried to find some pan drum music... but apparently its still a real problem to make recordings, and nothing readily showed up. I guess my experience with them was very rare, as it seems they are still not very popular.

Here are a couple links on pan drums for your information.
