  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Anybody like to watch TED Talks? I usually find them really thought provoking, I've seen some amazing presentations on everything from medical technology to introverted personalities.

If you guys like them maybe I'll post a few on here and we can chat about em.

Oh no, not Ted Talks again. This is all I keep hearing about at my school.

Yeah we watch a few of them in my genetics class this semester. Like this one:

Presents some interesting ethical questions though.

So the ethical dilemma is that having the means to alter genetics like we do, to create creatures ourselves for our own purposes, where do we draw the line? How far do we take it? Can it go too far?

So the ethical dilemma is that having the means to alter genetics like we do, to create creatures ourselves for our own purposes, where do we draw the line? How far do we take it? Can it go too far?

Man was not meant to do stuff like this. God, once He seen how we built the tower of Babel said that we have gone too far in the wrong direction and that He does not want us going there so He spread us out through out the land and made other languages so we could not communicate and produce such technology.

God gave us humans control and domain over the animals but He did not create us to be Creators like He is but we are meant to serve.

Where do we draw the line? We cant as only God can. Man has the stench of sin on him and he will always go too far do to our nature of sin. A good man knows the limits and stays at the level of serving but not all men are good and they will continue stuff like this until God intervenes like He did with the flood and at the tower of Babel. Also the government world wide has stated that the limit is humans, we cannot clone humans but that is the government and the whole world is not going to listen to them and I bet even our own government will produce a human clone someday if it has not already.

How far do we take it? At least until they produce me a clone of the most beautiful women even and one who will serve me and not be a big liberal and one who is really quiet and never wants to talk. After that break the mold as what is needed has been created. I am actually joking here as its up to God to decided who I will be with forever.

Can it go too far? It Probable already has. Why do we need a beefalo or a sheep/goat? Do we need to introduce new animals to our world that can do nothing more that what we already have.

From a science point of view it is very nice and will help lots of people in the future and maybe someday they can invent a new species who will go to work for me and at the end of the week give me the check but then again I really would get bored staying home all the time.

Being smart does not always mean being good or right. Its neat that they can control a fly from far away but God did that tick millions of years ago with the fly itself.

Based on everything I had read about this guy recently... I was thinking. a ted talk by this guy? Good? well let me give it a shot...

The first thing I noticed was the video length.
then it started playing.

Yep... it was not what I expected, and yet it was...

I'm bumping this thread instead of making a new one. I just watched this TED Talk from Glenn Greenwald, an investigative journalist. It's three years old, but more relevant than ever.

Check it out!

I prefer the dude a few years ago who put on professional looking videos and gave absurd advice on how to fix things. I don't know what was funnier, that he went to such lengths for quality or that people actually took his word on his tips and screwed.their.stuff.up!
