  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Since many Christians believe that same-sex couples, gays and lesbians are not fit to be parents and should be denied the right to adoption or artificial insemination, how do you feel about the latest Ted Haggard scandal?

For those who have no clue what I am talking about, Ted Haggard is the former senior pastor of the 14,000+ member megachurch, New Life Church. He recently admitted he had been involved in a three year homosexual relationship. He and his wife have five children together and it has been reported that the children are receiving alot of harassment from their classmates. In the midst of the scandal, it was also revealed that Pastor Haggard purchased Meth, but claims he never used it. He was also the head of the National Association of Evangelist and had strong ties to White House officials. He has since been asked to step down from his evangelical duties, but many Christians are remaining hush-hush on the incident. I haven't heard anyone calling him a pervert, an abomination or likened him to pedophiles. All I've heard are most sincere sympathies for his wife and kids and warm wishes for his "recovery". It is all being dismissed as simply "a man walking into the trap of sexual sin, which is very common for men".

Anyway, for those of you who condemn gay and lesbian parents, should Mr. and Mrs. Haggard's children be removed from their home? Should they be taken into state foster care until their father is "cured" of his "gayness"?

No, no matter what he did, his children should not be taken from the family

firstly, because we(reasonable people) should not degrade ourselves to his level of reasoning

secondly, because we have a basis of morale, and taking children out of the family will cause a certain amount of psychological damage, this should be avoided

Regardless of his sexual indiscretions, his children still have a father and a mother, and have been raised by both parents since birth. Unless there is evidence that they were abused, they should not be removed from their home.

He did the right thing, by providing a mother and a father for his children. He did the wrong thing by decieving his wife and himself, but it doesn't make him any less the father of his children.

That's actually a lie. He admitted to some "sexually immoral conduct" and buying meth, but he also stated that not everything his accuser said was true. And the polygrapher found that the accuser was being deceptive.
