• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Technology gone haywire.

The transition of science to technology can be impressive, but the misuse of technology is ever present......
I'd call that an example of how not understanding how to use the technology can be hilarious, but suggests how potentially dangerous it could be.

"Just a moment... Lemme just press this big red diet coke button..."
"Mr President, that's not the diet coke button!"
"Beautiful button, probably the best diet coke button. So cool..." <presses>
"Mr President! Stop!... Noooooo!"
"Oh, what, no diet coke? So how do I unpress this thing?"

What gets me about new technologies is the tacitly assumed: 'Its ok to remain completely ignorant of actually learning how to resolve technology problems for oneself .. I mean the ONLY way to resolve such problems, is surely to call in an expert' .. (and then proceed to criticise them in every way conceivable).

Apparently, the Texas attorney's daughter put the filter on; maybe the judge would have been better to have her take the case! Just imagine telling a judge, "I'm here live, I'm not a cat..." how does someone who thinks like that become an attorney? good grief!

The attorney to his credit was making a factually correct statement which is a legal requirement.
Imagine the legal ruckus if he used a kangaroo filter, then we would have had a kangaroo court.

In what way?

Maybe there's a better label for it, but the idea that anybody can do anything leading to everyone needing to know how to do everything themselves.

I wasn't clear with my question. I understand the concept. I just couldn't see in what way the incident was an illustration of its weaknesses.

The guy didn't appear equipped to handle his own computer tech. I think it's reasonable to ask: Why should he have to?
