I work in a television ministry that broadcasts on several different networks(DayStar, Hallmark, and the FamilyNet). Most of the preachers that appear on one network will appear on the other. We try to stray away from the 'name it and claim it' pastors, but they are inevitable. Our job is to promote the truth of God, and we have to pray that the Lord will convict them(I hope if it ever happens, it would be public), and change their hearts.

On a side note, a friend researched some pastors, and found out that some of their television ministries are acting as for-profit businesses. This is absolutely shocking, since most ministries, including television are non-profs

well the commericials are very tastesful. Basic commericials, nothing trying to sell sex and such. There are radio stations on their that you can run through your stereo. The shows that I was talking about was ,like Dollar-(I have just never been sure of him) the end times shows (prophecy) there are a couple of preachers (Benny Hinn and such)but I can't think of their names right off,,SkyAngel is very safe and both my children watch it. You will see nothing that your children shouldn't be watching on this satellite. They have a few kids stations also. They play Davey and Goilath all the time.Yeah, get online at their website and order.. Just remember Jesus said we would have false prophets and believe me they come in sheeps clothing. Hard to spot them coming.

Sky Angel is a great satellite program, but yes, you do find those searching for money on there. Jack Van Impe is another person on there that you should be warned about.

I'm not sure what the point was--(Victoria IS from the south and some us born in the south often have an "accent") but this is an example of Joel Osteen's character and that of the church he and his wife lead.

Say what you will, but the only thing I've ever seen Joel Osteen name and claim is victory in Jesus.

When a pastor gets on television, and Lakewood is the largest TV ministry in the country by far, and he says things like "We believe in the cross and all of that, but we don't want to offend anybody", then that is not the Christianity that I believe nor do I believe its the faith that is in the Bible. He definitely preaches the feel good part of Christianity, and will do whatever it takes to not offend anybody. That is the reason he is #1, and as I have looked at the Neilsen ratings for Christian broadcasts, the top 10 all preach the same type of message, one of health and wealth, and all you need to do it tell God you want health and wealth, and it shall happen blah blah etc. Its what attracts viewers. Also, I was born in Monroe, LA, grew up in Montgomery, AL, and now reside in Dallas, TX. I'm as Southern as it gets. Accents don't sound like that naturally, there is coaching going on, plus, she is dubbed a lot too so she can go back and make sure it comes off with the right effect.

um sorry, dont want to offend you friend,

but the church that i have attended for 16 years was number 2 last week, and has been number 1 many many times by neilson ratings on tbn.

and if you think my pastor is a feel good preacher then you could not be farther from the truth, my pastor has always firmly stood and declared that homosexuality, sexual immorality, etc... is very wrong. him and his pastors on staff have often preached sermons that nobody's flesh wanted to hear.
where people heard the message, got mad and left, and never came back. people stand up in the congregation and make a scene. people send him letters about why hes off, people threaten his kids, people come to his house and want to tell him why theyre furious with him. my pastor is not a pretty boy doll like preacher that has made himself rich by telling people what they want to hear.

but the truth is, people dont understand why some ministries have such great success, but is because of things like my pastor does. 21 day fasts, months of prayer, times when he and his wife are woke up in the middle of the night by an angel or by God and told to pray. my pastor has had times of being face to face with unclean spirits, and said the absolute opposite of what people want to hear. he is not a feel good pastor. but he knows God and has a heart of love and humility and wants only one thing, and that is to see souls saved for the Christ, and God has given us that.
over the last years 10s of 1000s of people have given their lifes to Christ through our ministry, and that is the proof and the only reason for our ministry.
people criticise us, lie on us, and hate our ministry for whatever reason, but anyway...

people like joel osteen succeed not becuase they dont tell things that people dont like, but the truth is, we really dont want to offend people. if we have to we will, but offending people is not and never will be the purpose of Christ. no, we dont want to offend people, and anyone who does is severaly wrong.
the message of Christ is and always will be a message of love and restoration. and when you reach out in love, and have the power and inspirition of God to bring restoration to peoples broken confused real lives, then you will be a success in the ministry, because people are crying out for help.
i know the bottom line of the gospel is the blood of Jesus and giving your life to him and living for him, but Jesus did come for more than just to see people saved, he came to restore broken lives and help people receive freedom from illness, poverty, depression, confusion, life matters.
its blessed not becuase its a tickle my ears sermon, but becuase it is part of God.

i am so thankful that God not only helped me out of hell, but he helped me out of depression, he helped me out of poverty, he helped me out social problems, he helped me out self esteem problems, and all these things are things God genuinely cares about.

it does not take a fake-o feel good preacher to make the top 10 on a ratings list. its not like your the only cautious person in the world. we have all met liars and cheats and no body wants to be manipulated.

The truth is though my friend, is that the message of Christ is offensive. It's about Christ's love, but at the same time, its about Christ's holiness too, and that is offensive to people that are outside the faith, because it causes a change that is sometimes unwanted by our flesh. I assume you are talking about Lakewood since you mentioned 'your pastor' in your reply. Thats great that he does all of this stuff that you have talked about, but I see no mention if it on the church's website. Also, since you have told me about all of these things your pastor is about, can you provide me the sermon titles he has preached these points and 'standing strong' like you described. I have been to Lakewood, I know that the church is built around its broadcast, why is it that there are no sermons that tell the truth of world issues that plague our world today? I'll close with this. I do not believe that Joel Osteen is an evil man, or that he is not a true believer in Christ, I believe he is, and I believe that he has been blessed with a gift to communicate His gospel to the masses. I just believe that his idea of Christianity is a little off and that is leading him to believe in false teachings, and that is very dangerous. And how did you find out this weeks Nielsen ratings? It usually takes a few days before they are published for non-top10 outlets.

no i do not attend lakewood church, that is not the ministry i spoke of as my own. though i do support his ministry.

but friend, the point still is, Christ does not intend to offend anyone, and he did all he possibly could to not offend, by dying for people and purchasing the right to speak into peoples lives.
Jesus said that if he be lifted up, he would draw all men unto him.
the gospel is only a stumbling block to some people who want it to be, Jesus said his burden was easy and his yoke is light. the message of Jesus is not simply an offensive message, becuase it is a message of love. the holyspirit convicts and brings the power and peace to accept holiness.

i refferred to the reports from last week, actually i could be a week off or aheard, forgive me.

heres a question,
why is false teaching as dangerous as some people say it is?

im not saying its good to be wrong about anything or that God would have us be wrong. but people just having wrong theology is not what is crippling our nation or churchs, people with degrees are plenteful these days, the best christian educations possible.
we all have mistakes and flaws in our theologies, myne changes everytime i read the bible a little. no one really has their mind rapped around this and got it down to a T.

im not promoting slackness or falsehood, im just saying the longer i grow with God the more i look back and see how God used me, even when some of the things i said werent correct. and the more i learn Gods word the more i look around and recognise errors in other peoples beliefes, but i still see God using those people too. the bible says that it is the Spirit that brings life, not the letter. Jesus said the pharisees were wrong when they thought to find life in the scripture they studied so deeply.
we all say things that are a little off,
but if God is involved and his spirit is moving he makes up for that, he always has and always will have too.
thats why we have seen revivals that truely brought many many people to Christ, in nearly all kinds of Christianity, even though their are like 90,000 diffrent denominations in Christianity.
we all believe so diffrently sometimes ya know?
im pentecostal, john wesley was methodist, charles finney was calvinest, mark rutland is welseyan.
and all of those except for me have done so much for the kingdom of God and seen thousands of souls won to Christ, even though their theologies at times differed. its not about having pure theology, its about having a growing relationship with God. ya know?

i totally understand where you are coming from, but the fact is is that while not meaning to inflict offense on somebody, the word of Christ alone is offensive, just ask the devil and his minions. To stand firm means that you are going to hack people off, it is inevitable, and you cannot be worried about offending people with your faith, because if you are, it means that your faith is like the sand, when Jesus wants it to be like the rock. If I were to stand in front of your door and not move no matter what, you would be offended eventually when you had to leave your house, the same applies here. Differences in the origins and theology of God are totally different than false teachings as well. I just honestly believe that ministers like Osteen are preaching what Jesus can do in your life materially(He and others talk a lot about debt, and money, and things of this world a lot), instead of what he has already done, and that is what matters, such as your place in the Kingdom of God. What I love about our television ministry is that we are a church first, and not a broadcast ministry first. I think that is essential in having a broadcast ministry effectively reaching people for Christ.

Joel Osteen is a big name-it-and-claim-it TV evangelist as well.
Just to throw in a little info, "name-it-and-claim-it" was made a mainstream phrase by a secular pop psychologist who truly believes this philosophy for success in life, Dr. Phil, and he first introduced it on Oprah almost 10 years ago. He is the original "name-it-and-claim-it" evangelist, but he ain't preaching Jesus at all, he's preaching personal success=money. The world most often associates Dr. Phil with that phrase, I know because I used to love Dr. Phil and follow his advice as a nonchristian. He is still very popular.
