Maybe West Side Story. There wasn't much rock in The Warriors. The open and incidental music was electronic and Nowhere To Run was a disco/funk cover of a soul song.My grandfather used to call rock music "switchblade music." Lol. I have no idea where he picked that up. I seriously doubt he ever saw The Warriors or Rumble Fish.
I don't care for Taylor Swift's music, though I've heard some in the music industry claim that her influence on young people, particularly young women, seems to have resulted in a spike in guitar sales, since she is apparently one of the last celebrities still making hits who can and does pick up a guitar during her concerts and actually play it. That's cool to me, if true. Kids should be encouraged to pick up instruments, rather than just play around on their computers with pre-recorded, pitch-corrected, sound-sampled everything. Playing an instrument is great for physical coordination and dexterity, creativity more generally, and of course for angering John Belushi, and those are all good things from where I'm sitting.
But, yeah, this Federalist whining is very "old man yells at cloud" to me...and I technically am an old man by now, so you'd think I'd be on board, but nope. Too silly.
Sigh... since I remember the Hee Haw and Laurence Welk stuff, does that mean I need to start yelling at clouds?Sorry, but society collapsed when The Laurence Welk show did "One Toke over the Line".
Join the club. We stand out on our own lawns on alternate Tuesdays.Sigh... since I remember the Hee Haw and Laurence Welk stuff, does that mean I need to start yelling at clouds?
That is pretty sad. Most celebrities are leftists and all conservatives can do is avoid them as much as possible. Whether they are talented or not is irrelevant and worthless.
I grew up watching all of that. Roy Clark was probably one of the best guitar/banjo players of all time. I don't yell at clouds. I don't even mind if there are clouds in my coffee....Sigh... since I remember the Hee Haw and Laurence Welk stuff, does that mean I need to start yelling at clouds?
The older I get, the more I understand Grandpa Simpson and more importantly, I agree with Red and Kitty FormanI grew up watching all of that. Roy Clark was probably one of the best guitar/banjo players of all time. I don't yell at clouds. I don't even mind if there are clouds in my coffee....
I just checked and most of the Hee Haw Honeys are in their 70s and thus not old enough to yell at clouds,Sigh... since I remember the Hee Haw and Laurence Welk stuff, does that mean I need to start yelling at clouds?
I guess that means I just have to yell at kids in the lawn then.I just checked and most of the Hee Haw Honeys are in their 70s and thus not old enough to yell at clouds,
Its sort of like the darker moments of The Cure, except.... different.Reminds me that some of us grew up with HeeHaw, with classics like this:
Also nice. The Nuge made some great music despite his abhorrent political attitudes. Great git player for non-flashy pocket licks and riffs. That is pretty sad.
I like Ted Nugent music, regardless of him being a radical right winger. Same with any others who are on the right - musician or actor.
Well I grew up listening to the Sex Pistols and Ian Dury, so creepy lyrics are not an issue with meAlso nice. The Nuge made some great music despite his abhorrent political attitudes. Great git player for non-flashy pocket licks and riffs.
Some of his lyrics are a little creepy tho.
Never investigate the politics of your musical heroes. That is pretty sad.

Excuse me? I have just entered my 8th decade young man.I just checked and most of the Hee Haw Honeys are in their 70s and thus not old enough to yell at clouds,
So time to run for president?Excuse me? I have just entered my 8th decade young man.
You know what gets me these days? There'll be a news report about some incident when 'an elderly man' was injured. And it turns out the dude was 10 years younger than me!
Ah, it was a hokey film. But Wagner and Helen Mirren? I O/D'd on testostrerone.Oh and speaking of overlooking politics for art. How about that vile anti-semite Wagner? He was a total genius and I love his music..... when I'm in a certain not-everyday sort of mood.
Good advice. In my case I started liking him in 1974 with the Amboy Dukes before I knew of his politics. Sometimes it is difficult to unlike what was liked after such a long time.Never investigate the politics of your musical heroes.
Old Man! respect....Excuse me? I have just entered my 8th decade young man.
