CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

It is as immoral as highly intelligent aliens coming to our planet and gutting us then propping us up over their mantles for enjoyment.
Mostly I just find this archaic practice barbaric, and have never understood its purpose. Apparently it is to make men feel strong and manly knowing that they can kill a defenseless animal with a rifle and scope.

Tax it all you want, I too agree that the practice is rather archaic. I say make a business of stuffing people's family pets.

Sending something to the Taxidermy itself isnt bad. However, I am a firm believer that one should eat the critter that they shot.
I hunt on occasion. The only time i didnt eat what I shot was varmint control. Im a rather skilled marksman, when I hunt I go for a central nervous system shot; if I cant get a good cns shot I dont shoot. The hope of this is if the brain isnt there no pain can be processed.
As long as the critter wasnt taken in vain and it died with as little pain as possible I dont have an ethical problem with it.
Faithful NonBeliever, I think your right in alot of cases but not all. I was deeply startled when Ive inquired about a few mounts Ive seen. Particularly the 2 chandeliers of 100 pairs of antlers each. They werent fake. Taking stuff to excess and not even eating the critters is barbaric.

It is already being done.
Morality does not even enter into the matter of taxidermy. However, there are those who in opposing it (or any subject) attempt to make a moral issue out of it apparently in an effort to add strength to their arguement.

I always wanted to get my cat stuffed after he died.. he was in our family for over 13+years, I actually had it pretty set in my mind, but he ran away and never returned. I was always told animals do that when they are attached to their owners, they go away to die and I think that is what the cat did.
But it was going to cost a pretty penny and now I think about it, I'd probably freak people out just having it set out someplace.

I don't know how moral it is. I think it's a little silly. I was looking in the want ads and someone was selling a elk mount. Who would buy that? would they try to say they had bagged it? I don't have any problem with hunting though. I personally don't hunt but not because of any moral aversion.

But these folks are out there. I dont know if they guy is saying he caught em or what. Ive never been to his resteraunt nor seen him since. They were well sized. I have done some good billfishing despite my age.

Instead of hunting something down and shooting it with a gun or bow, I'd be much happier with myself if I hunted it down and shot it with a camera. And look, I'd still have something to show off afterward! Both the animal and I win

But wildlife is tasty. I prefer the rabbit myself.

To each their own I guess. I don't have any stuffed animals. But, I guess if I was at someone's house who did, I'd be more curious about the the item itself, since it's right there in front of me.
Some people hunt and feed their family several meals of fresh venison, and have the head mounted for a trophy. Other people have their departed and beloved pets stuffed as a memorial. Museums and zoological institutions also use taxidermy. (Ancient Egypt comes to mind, as well. )
