OK i was thinking about getting a tattoo. "your body is a temple unto the Lord" now thats my spiritual body right? cause this body will pass away like everything else and just rot in the ground when we die. How is getting a tatto differnt then wearing make up? getting a tattoo removed can be expensive but it can be done. So what are you guys thinking about tattoo's?

I have a tattoo, just got it for Mother's Day this year. I think that as long as the tattoo is offensive, vulgar or satanic then it's fine. The only verse I've read regarding tattoo's in the Bible was this one:

Leviticus 19:28 Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD.

But Jesus took away the old law and made a new law (Romans 13:8-10), so therefore the passage in Leviticus no longer applies.

I have a tattoo, it's of the Chi Rho (not sure I spelled that right) in a sun. It's got meaning because it's the Greek symbol for Jesus Christ, in a sun because we're all supposed to shine His light. So, I think tattoos can be neat, if they're not vulgar or inappropriate, or stupid, and you're certain you want this on your body for the rest of your life. (I know you can remove them, but really, getting the thing is painful enough!!)

I don't think a tattoo is going to mar your soul -- but what do I know since I don't believe like you. ;)

Personally, I am planning on getting a tattoo in the future when I can afford it. I just can't justify the cost while in college. Well... I could afford to lose a little weight and if I got a tattoo I couldn't afford food -- that's justification. lol

The Lord Jesus certainly did not nullify the law - rather He said: Mt 5,17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

The point is: one cannot get saved by observing the law.

What is the difference between getting a tattoo and getting your ears pierced? Both leave a mark in the flesh. When I look around in church almost every women (and a few men) have pierced ears and no one gives it a second thought. I think that tattoos are really more of a social/generational problem than a religious problem.

Well perhaps it's more a problem of God's people not to conform to this evil world?

1Jo 2,15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

As I said, I don't consider a tattoo to be any different than pierced ears, and I don't consider them to be evil.

The only thing I wanted to say is not to make a decision too easily just by arguing that the Old Testament laws are not valid any more..... that's all ;)

The Biblesays not to engrave anything on our bodies.. Ok, I have to laugh when people use this..

A). The very next verse say not to shave the corners of your beard.
B). It's talking to priests
C). It wants them to abstain from the pagen ritual of cutting... Not tattoos

Anyways, the Bible doesn't have anything to say against tattoos.. Except that if it causes someone to be offended.. In that case, you should cover it while they are present.

If you're asking this on a Biblical level.. Why did you post it here :-D

I got a tattoo when I was 20 and not a Christian. I considered it an act of rebellion at the time and still do. Any Christian who is thinking of getting a tattoo should pray and ask God to show them what it is they're rebellioning against. Remember "friendship with the world is hatred towards" (James 4:4).

I dont think there's anything wrong with a tasteful tatto. Just as long as:

1. You realise that your taste is likely to change with time.

2. There are some people who will not hire you/or date you if you have a tatto, especially if it is large, distasteful or in a place that can not be easily covered up with normal clothing.

God is more concerned about the condition of our hearts. If our hearts are right then I can't see why a Christian would want a tattoo.
Until a few months ago I went through a period where I would describe myself as having been backslidden. A couple of times I was close to going out and getting (another) tattoo. When I look back at the condition my heart was in at the time I know that I was a long way from God.
Any Christian who wants to get a tattoo really needs to pray about the issue and see what God says, after all our bodies are temples of God's Spirit (1 Cor.3/16-17). Would you go and scribble graffiti over God's temple?
