I like the way everyone thinks on here. I value all of your opinions and I appreciate what you have said. I agree that people really shouldn't get meaningless tattoos. A co-worker the other day was showing me where she had a tattoo removed from. Right on top of her shin was a nice big thousand dollar scar. Its not pretty to cover up a tattoo that you regret. (It could be better than the original tattoo though!) This discussion has helped me get geared up for my next tattoo!

:) Jesus has a tattoo...lol in revelations is says that when he descends he will have written on his thigh a name.

Revelation 19:16
On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.

So they cant be bad at all ;)

Let me ask you this. If you walked into your pastors house and opened the fridge and you saw beer in there. How would you respond? of course there will be a mixed reaction, and some of you would even drink with the pastor. But my point is the in a blanket generalization the response would be confusion. Now drinking is not a sin, being a drunk is. Do you know what the bible says about confusion? that it's from Satan and that our God is the author of peace. So likewise we must assume the author of confusion is Satan. Just like alcohol and what this thread communicates is that the subject of tattoos causes confusion which we just established is from satan. Just a thought

i agree :) confusion is from Satan therefore we better well know our Truth so we dont become so easily swayed...

I think that if a pastor (and i know one just like this) covered in tattoos, went out to a group of younger adults who were atheist or whatever..drug addicts...low lifes any of the sort of crowd like how Jesus confused others by hanging out with them...approached them with some beers and sat down with them to talk about Christ...there would be less confusion in that group of individuals and they would be more receptive to hearing him.

Confusion i think, not to veer off topic, is only really effective against someone with a stronghold in their mind..a lie they've believed...insecurities...resentments, fears...all the sort of negative things...that havent been dealt with or given to God.

We can control our confusion but when we cause confusion for others we can't control their thoughts.

and if guy with tattoos went to the streets to share the gospel his tattoos are not what is going to save lives, but the pastor's love for those people. tattoos or not. if you show someone love it doesn't matter if you look like Einstein or vanilla ice, or skretch. Love covers a multitude of sin, tattoos only cover a multitude of skin.

In response to what was said about tattoos causing confusion, I understand where you're coming from but to me tattoo's are good conversation starters. Every single tattoo I have or will have are meaningful. My very first (and still only) tattoo is of a 3 nails cross. Its not finished yet though because I would like to get broken chains down at the bottom of it but through that tattoo I can tell people about my relationship with God and how he indeed broke all my chains.
