  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Or eat shellfish
Or mix clothing
Or trim your beard
Or cut your hair

Funny how one specific verse is SO misused and so much empasis put on it and the remainder of the 613 laws are not even mentioned.

Question

How does getting ink applied to your skin, at if you use proper judgement, a professional and hygienic tattoo parlor changes your spirituality, morality, disposition in general or harm your body.

How does it harm ones body ??
Simple, it doesn't.
How does it change sprituality ??
Simple, it doesn't.
How does it change morality ??
Simple, it doesn't.

I'm the very same person I am now as when I was born 45 years ago except for a few tattoos.

I also have scars from chicken pox, various vaccinations, several scars on my back from several surgeries as well as on my belly from a hernia and other surgeries.
Do those make me any different other than not being born with those marks ??
Not hardly. Same goes for having tattoos.
You are not any less moral, spiritual, or harmed.
Personally, I dislike it greatly when people make those broad generalizations that a tattoo will affect you in that way.

FWIW, I agee with you.
I was just trying to add to your point here.

The part about ritual markings for the dead in the verse quoted in the op refers to a pagan ritual of cutting oneself for the dead and that would have been an act against God.
Proper and hygenic tatoo parlors did not exist at the time that verse was written and it is likely that many tatoos lead to infections and some even to death at that time, so it was also a matter of proper hygiene at that time to not be tatooed.

How is having tats any more "worldly" than driving a car or owning a TV... or computer!? If being "different from the world" -- a.k.a. being an oddball -- is one's goal, go live in the wilderness and eat bugs and honey and whatever the ravens bring you.

Sheesh.

Then maybe it's time to stop searching CF for every single thread / posts about tattoos and cease with the criticising / condemning those of us that find it acceptable.
It's that simple.

If people find it acceptable to have to continually explain for eternity why they chose to graffiti themselves when God said it was unholy to do so then far be it for me to criticise them.

If God created everything, God created common sense. Which is sense enough to understand things like the difference in hygiene between the ancient world and the modern world in regards to tattooing.

I do not criticise people for having tattoos -I am merely against the concept of supporting/promoting something on a christian website that God says is unholy.
It really is that simple

Try reading lev 19:28 IN CONTEXT and there will be NO confusion on this Tas.

This is simply misusing and abusing one single verse to back a poorly planned argument, built on a sandy and unstable foundation, WHICH has been refuted time after time after time. Quite soundly too.

This verse has been refuted to death many times, Let Lev 19:28 RIP.

It's either that or start holding to the rest of the 613 laws written in the bible.

It's that simple.

I wouldn't worry about getting tattooed. Don't you think that since God knew every hair on your head, and orders your steps, that He knows whether or not you're going to be tattooed? Geez, He already knows what you're going to get before you do! But He chose to give you life anyway so obviously you serve some greater purpose that's more important than a tattoo.

So I guess no new body for you ?

And boy do I fell sorry for those that loose there life to a fire, being burnt to a crisp, having to spend all eternity walking around burnt.

I'm so glad that you choose not to criticize people with tattoos sine I have over 100, and my profession for the last 37 years has been the application of same. But it might interest you to know that even God had tattoos. Yep, that's right! Try looking at Isaiah 49:15-16 which says (Eng Std ver.)

15 "Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you.

16 Behold, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands;
your walls are continually before me.

In some translations, the words "permanently engraved", or "permanently etched" are used. As such, that would be a tattoo.

And besides that, there is evidence of tattooed people long before Christ walked the earth. Some going back 5000 years to the Iceman, discovered in 1992. So before there was organized religion, there were tattoos.

The Jews have correctly interpreted Lev 19:28 and dont have any problem in avoiding tattoos even after many thousands of years. Did you know that it was common practice for Jews not to allow the burial of somebody with tattoos in a jewish cemetary- that is how dogmatic they are on the matter.
As for having tattoos in heaven -if God thinks you are spiritually attached to them I see no reason why He would not let you keep them for eternity on your resurrected bodies.
