  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Don't worry about me getting a "tramp stamp". I don't want to put my tattoos where everyone else has them (boob, lower back). I wanna get one on my inner left wrist, one on my top right foot, 2 on each shoulder blade, and one on my left arm. This is what I want, not necessarily what I'm gonna do. Knowing me I'll never get them. :)

As to that Corinthian Passage, it was addressing the sexual sins and of Corinth and that the Body was not an object of pleasure but an object of Worship. To imply he was addressing tattoos is more than a stretch.

If that passage is limited to sexual sins, then I guess there's no problem with smoking chronic. However, I take a broader interpretation of it. It is wrong to do drugs, since the body is a temple. A temple can also be decorated to honor God - whether it is with good, Christian tattoos that you have prayed about, or scars and bruises from persecution. At least that's my take.

I'll second twistedsktech. I think its all a matter in how the individual looks at it. I'm SO proud of my religious tats. But I'm not super attached to my piercings, which is why I took most of them out.

I've been planning a sleeve of the mariacles of Jesus for months. I dont know that I'll ever be in a position financially to get it. but its awesome to plan it.

I think tattoos are fine. Heck, if I wasn't so much of a pain wuss (and so afraid of needles), I'd get one (or more) myself. The way I see it, God cares more about what's inside of you (your heart and soul) than what sorts of decorations you choose to put on your body. :)

I have a cross on my right bicep. I see nothing wrong with it. This just like anything is what is the reasoning behind it. I got mine because I was a lifeguard and had shirt off a lot and it would look cool. (J/K) People ask why the cross and it opens up doors for em to speak to them. Now I sit behind a desk so I look cool with me shirt on.

I don't think there is an exact answer on whether tattoos are wrong or not. The only stipulation I see is that it alters your body away from the way God created us. I, myself, have 2 tattoos and 4 piercings, so I can't really argue against it. :p

I think the intent and purpose for them is what it comes down to. God looks at the heart. He has blessed us with many things that we seemingly happen to screw up, such as alcohol, sex, and even food. I utilize these "add-ons" as a ministry tool. It lets me talk to groups of people that normally wouldn't bother with a clean cut looking person. It's good for others to realize that God loves them the way they are.

I know of a biker that I have played with at a church I go to. He used to be part of a local biker gang, but then later decided to give his life to Jesus. He became ashamed of his tattoos and always tried to cover them up. The Lord told him, "I did not tell you to cover those up." He now ministers to bikers all over. God uses his tattooy biker look to attract others in that social group.

So my final conclusion is that I don't have the perfect answer to whether it's wrong or not, but I do know God can use anything if you give it Him.

i am glad i found this thread coz i was actually thinking about this question this week. I agree with the majority of the posters in this thread. Obviously you dont want to get something, you know, bad like demons and stuff, but there are some good things you could get.
i was thinking that if i ever did get one it would be something small and in a place that it would hopefully not look funny when i get old. i thought maybe the word "eternity" on the inside of my left wrist that is somewhere it can be seen, but can easily be covered by a watch or bracelet if need be. it would be in cursive writing. i am interested in hearing what tattoos people have and their reasons for getting them.

I've thought for a while that I might get a black cross on my shoulder, chest or bicep. 6 or 8 cm tall I reckon.

But yeah, I reckon it's one of those things I'd pray about first.

I was going to say that as long as it's tasteful it's probably ok, however I thought abut it a bit and it occurred to me that tasteful is a matter of opinion.

I have two tattoos -- one on the back of my right shoulder of a somewhat Gothic style cross with the word "Elohim" scripted underneath it. It signifies my walk with God and that He is my creator, as "Elohim" means "my God and my Creator." The other is on my left side, right where my ribcage is. It's of sixteenth note and a dotted quarter note. This is for my love of music and praising God. I'm planning on getting my third (which I say will be my final one, but probably won't :p) on my right foot. It's going to be a dove with tongues of fire coming out behind it. The word "Rouaque" (not sure about the spelling there) is going to be somewhere around it in Hebrew, and it means "Wind of God." I was talking to my friend Justin and he said that it's very symbolic -- it alludes to each part of the trinity (fire for the holy spirit, dove for Christ, and wind for God). I'm exited to get at the end of the summer!

I think tattoos are definitely a personal issue for each person, and something to be prayed about. I didn't get either of my tattoos without putting a lot of prayer and thought into them, because I don't want anything to be permanently on my body that I will get sick of and doesn't mean anything.

I know 2 guys, and one of them goes to my church, who have crosses on their biceps. I see nothing wrong with that. In fact, I think it's pretty cool, and like many on here have mentioned, it can be used as a way to share their faith, and minister to others if they're questioned about it.
So, I don't think it's entirely wrong to get a tattoo, AS LONG AS it is tasteful and reflects something positive, especially about your faith.
If I ever got one, it would probably be a very small dove, swirly cross, or a meaningful word on the inside of my wrist or in the middle of my upper back maybe. But I'll probably never get one because they seem just a little too permanent for me!

I don't have a tattoo but I really want one. Have wanted one for years. Orginally I wanted a fairy, but I have now changed my mind and I want a star on my inner lower arm, just below the elbow crease (get what I mean?), or something in memory of my mum (which I have no idea what it could be) or a cross. I'm not sure yet, just need to find a good artist.

I got 9 and plan on geting many more. Love them all, they look great. nothing wrong with them at all, just make sure when you get them that it is something you won't mind looking at for the rest of your live (somethig that is meaningfull) and you get an artist that can do a good job.

I LOVE my tattoos AND my piercings. I used to work as a body piercer a few years ago, and I recall doing modifications on many known Christians. I think the whole "tattoo" thing is just a way many people choose to express themselves. As an artist, I find that tattoos can be an excessory to the skin that can make a statement about that person.

I'm a new Christian, about 6 months in, and right after my commitment to Christ I got tattoos on the backs of my calves, of old school anchors, with one banner that says 'family' and one banner that says 'God'.

I'm constantly stopped and asked about my tattoos by Christians and others alike. Its a way I can proudly wear my love of my faith. I would post pics...but I dont have 100 posts yet. So here is a link where you can see them:

Those are gorgeous!! I love them :)

I want a tat of a peace sign on my right foot. But I need to wait a while to get it...I'm way short on cash.
