  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

More power to you if that's what you enjoy. But have you considered how this will look on you in decades to come? What about when you're 60+?
At least in my case, I look at it like this....if I still look good enough at 60+ to wear sleeveless shirts, bathing suits, etc. in public, then the tattoos will still look OK. If my arms turn saggy, then I won't be exposing them to the public anyway, so it won't matter. I just hope that my commitment to working out stays strong.

I like long hair. I've let my hair grow down over my shoulders and I think it looks rather cool with my gray beard. I also like a doublebreasted suit. Dark green really suits me ----black shirt----copper Art Deco necktie...

The reality is that at anytime, I can put on a pair of jeans and a navy blue t-shirt and I can get my head shaved.

However, once one gets a tattoo, you're kind of stuck with it. I'm look'n good right now, but in a few years, I may have to rethink my tastes. But how does one rethink a tattoo. It's sort of like getting a scar on one's cheek, because that is what everyone else wants (though a saber slit across one's cheek is alot cheaper to get than a battleship across one's chest). And come to think of it, it actually does take some sword play on the part of the one so afflected to make it really cool...

To me, a tatoo speaks of bad judgement, possibly prison time. Of course, that's just me, but I am as entitled to my interprettions as you are to your tatoos.

Really? I could see that back in the '50s, but today, lots of regular people have tattoos. I myself have several, but the memorial for my grandmother and the tribute for my wife are hardly based on bad judgement.

As you said, you are entitled to your interpretations. But I think those interpretations might need revisiting. I don't know anybody who has a prison tattoo or a gang tattoo or any other tattoo based on something unsavoury.

Indeed that is a picture of me.

For some reason, I was distracted by your cool tatts, saw your icon, and thought that you were a really conservative poster here. That was why I was so surprised.

What i really love about your ink is that it all means something. I have problems with people that get really dumb stuff on their body, like the Japanese word for "Man", or the overdone barbed band that everyone and his mom has.

It's much better when it is well thought out, and it has some significance to the person's life, almost like a scar of experience.

Coming from a conservative religious upbringing, have you ever had someone accuse you of sinning, and quoting Leviticus?

Also, in Toronto, I will see a lot of cool art on, say the subway. For you personally, or others that you know that are inked, do you mind when people say, "Can I see your tattoo?", especially when it is on a shoulder or arm?

I had a friend that gave massage for tattoo hours. She had a large bird with wings spread on her back, something on her chest, something on her wrists, and something on her arm. Then, she would go into a club or bar, and have them partially exposed. When someone would ask if they could see them, she would get angry, and say, "No!", so, I'm always paranoid to ask. However, I have always wanted to make a cool book of people I have seen with cool tatts exposed that I just happen to pass in the city.

A lot of guys walk around showing off the tops of their boxers and listening to rap/crap ---- but at least one can grow up and change. One doesn't grow out of his tattoo/s. They are there until death do they part (when rot sets in)...

Indeed one doesn't (although recent advancements is laser removal and non-permanent ink change that a bit). But is that a bad thing? I've made a life-long "til death" commitment to my wife, and I have the tattoo to prove it. All of my tattoos have a personal importance, and are not willy-nilly. Why would I want to grow out of them?

I love tattoos. I just see them as art, especially more creative looking ones. I've always wanted a tattoo, but I haven't had the right design, money, or guts to get one yet. I'd love to get a turtle tattoo (turtles have always been my personal symbol) on my foot, but my several times tattooed cousin told me it would hurt too much.

Aw yes,

I am quite conservative and usually if someone brings up the Old Testament ban on them I always ask them if they follow Jewish dietary laws, or if they still believe in stoning adulteresses and making burnt offerings. I emphasize how these laws are dead and gone, and bring up how Paul even said if the tradition of men having short hair and women having long hair 'does not agree with them, let it not be a contention to them,' that merely it was a Jewish tradition. The idea that even physical circumcision which was once a sign of the covenant and important to Jews is no longer practiced.

If you do everything with a smile and enough Biblical knowledge to back up your point, it usually turns out all right. Most people are satisfied to see young people active and knowledgable in the faith. :)

Second, I do not get mad when people ask to see my tattoos. Most of the time I like it. But there are some times I do not like it -- for example, people have asked to see my tattoos while I have been in quite a formal scenario where it would cause a scene, or they ask to "see it all" (It goes up to the top of my shoulder blade) when I have long sleeves on, which is just inconvenient.

And I definitely agree with you -- tattoos should be VERY meaningful to the persona nd not just something that tickled their fancy one Saturday afternoon.

Bolding mine.

In my experience no one has ever been offended by my asking to see a tat or have it explained. Funny how much difference tone of voice and lead in can make. Much of the time my look is very very conservative. (It all depends on how recently my beard has been trimmed, I move between English Butler and wild mountian man). When the opening is 'nice tat' in a tone that says I really mean it people have always been cool. Of course I've never asked to see a whole tat of someone in a tux at a wedding where only as small part shows. I'm sure some fool has.

Right on.

I think you sound like you have a cool look -- I can also embody two extremes. When I want to I can go off looking like the only place I should be in the entire world is a punk show, and other times I look well put together.

Tell me, does the beard itch every time you grow it out? :D

I am jealous of people who can grow thick, nice beards. I know a few years from now I should be there but not quite there yet. :p
