  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Tasks Under Secrecy

How would you describe the tasks you do as a scientists, without breaking the integreity of your proffessions tasks?

For instance, wikipedia tells us what glass is Glass - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia but after reading that article can you transform your knowledge into practice? Simply stating are you a tailor after reading this article?: Tailor - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Can you create a nuke to impress girls with, by reading about it?

Someone needs to hatch the ideas, and some people need to make the official science to cover his findings... or am i wrong?

Do you believe you will be able to construct a nuke after reading a Ph D in Physics? or is what you've read only a official explination of hidden, secrecy and classified material?

So you are saying that anyone with a bright mind can design a nuke after reading physics? There are no classified material, no hidden technology that is under secrecy and after reading articles about prospection and mining of uranium and putting into a lump of 10 kilo which Einstein calculated being the critcial mass of uranium, i will finally have a nuke...

... May i ask do you believe that???

I always thought pizzabakers were evil... They are a danger to the whole western world..

There is no "secret" knowledge in the context you mean. Anyone trained in nuclear physics would know how to build a nulcear bomb, in the same way that anyone trained in urban architecture would know how to build a house.

Knowing how and having the resources are two different things. I daresay an artist that creates bronze scultures could create a life size sculpture of me in pure platinum, it's getting the platinum that is hard.

You only need to look around the world to see how relatively few countries have nuclear weapons to see how hard they are to build because the process is difficult and expensive, which is entirely separate from knowing how to build

May I ask if it's 'happy hour' where you are right now? Your posts don't seem to be too cogent. I apologize if I'm wrong.

I don't need to hatch ideas that are classified... It is just up to me to build one with the resources?

I know that... are you saying that I can build a nuke using 10 kilos of uranium and a oven melting it to a brick of the critical mass?

You only need to look around the world to see how relatively few countries have nuclear weapons to see how hard they are to build because the process is difficult and expensive, which is entirely separate from knowing how to build

So you are saying, if i melt a brick of ten kilos of uranium, we will have a nuclear blast... all i need is the resources?

I am unfamiliar with this, i met the green fairy on abisnth,(its legal in sweden) and started to hatch alot of crazy ideas...

if i read a book about metallurgy will i be able to mine gold afterwards? There are no secrecy in the proffession? nothing hidden? anyone can do it? and it's based upon luck, as my claim for a area shows up to give birth to gold?

The same way, as a tailor, i am a tailor, i know how to crochet after reading about it?

there are no proffessional secrets as a scientists?

I need to know, because that green fairy made me hatch alot of crazy ideas! Such as the reason why the swedish artist Joakim Thåström doesn't want the break dutch porcelain..

Pretty much -- you can even get it off teh interwebs!

Nuclear weapon design - Wikimedia Commons

Of course, the government keeps its own designs top secret, so what you build on your own may not be as effective, but it'll get the job done.

I don't need to hatch ideas that are classified... It is just up to me to build one with the resources?

Yes -- good luck getting the resources, however.

There is nothing, no what so ever, proffessional secrecy around diffrent tasks of the chosen proffession?

I had a step father also in similar condtion as I (he sees green, but gnomes instead of fairies) and hatched the idea that fowlpoo and sulfuric created amphetamine... now i didn't trust in that.

Let's say i have a company, and i decide to pay 80000 swedish crowns for a claim over a area to set up my mine... all i need to do is rely upon luck, that i will find uranium or gold.

As I understand, and here correct me if i am wrong, there are secrecy within diffrent proffessions... what else do we need laws against industrial espionage???

ROFL... i feel enlighten....

I don't drink absinth, but my grandmother brewed it with the stew (it is culturally accepted among upperclass here in sweden) before she died... i didn't know this before some weeks ago and she passed away this summer. The story goes like this, Ikarus father (my grandmothers partner that is a scientist) build wings of wax, but in this case ikarus did not die after flying up to the sun even spotting ligthning come out from his fingers as he pointed at diffrent directions. His father built the wings with absinth, and are even to this day amazed that he could fly so high wihtout dying... Ikarus is me, and i didn't die, even though i flew up to the sun... without knowing what was in that stew.

After it i started to hatch all crazy ideas... I need to sort things out now when I have softly and tenderly landed In the Fathers arms and he brought me down to earth!!!

I have been to your country, if I lived there I'd be drinking Absinthe too. Just kidding, but it does get awfully dark and cold.

Let's say i have a company, and i decide to pay 80000 Swedish crowns for a claim over a area to set up my mine... all i need to do is rely upon luck, that i will find uranium or gold.
Well that seems a good way to lose 80000 Swedish Crowns. I think you might be better off spending some of those crowns to hire a geologist to survey your land and determine it contains any uranium or gold, which brings me to my point:

Any survey geologist could perform that survey, but you are the one that gets to know the results of it. It's not the knowledge of how to do a job we keep secret, its what results we get when we do the job.

As I understand, and here correct me if i am wrong, there are secrecy within diffrent proffessions... what else do we need laws against industrial espionage???
The secrets are around the results of the science, not the basic methodology.

Hello all. First post at CF.

Not sure I follow your question, but what what came to mind was; mechanical engineers design weapons, and civil engineers build targets.

(No offense to civil engineers :) )
^_^ -- that's funny!

Welcome to CF!

Absinthe is dangerous, it can give tuberculosis.

Absinthe makes the heart grow fonder.

More seriously, there are no conclusive studies to show that absinthe is any more dangerous than any other spirit. In addition, mycobacterium tuberculosis causes tuberculosis, not absinthe.
