  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hi what files in the task manager can I safely close. We have DSL but it takes a long time to be able to use Internet Explorer. It should not be this way. I can close out webshots and spybot. We have symantec antivirus but it slows everything done once it's activated. We have a computer filter too.

Any advice?

Jan

Don't ever close Symantec Anti-Virus, it is your virus protection for when you are on the internet. Spybot also should not be shut down as it will help you keep spyware off your computer as you are browsing.

If IE is slow, it is probably because you have spyware and adware on your computer that needs to be removed. Get Ad-Aware (free version available at lavasoft.com) and run it, frequently if you are a heavy net-user, to get rid of the adware and spyware.

You should also try clearing your cache, history, and cookies periodically to speed up IE's performance.

It's almost impossible for anyone to tell you a list of programs you can close from the task manager. Processes run in the background for tasks your specific computer and peripherals need to do, and we're probably not going to be able to tell you without seeing a list what is okay to close and what is not.

If you go to this link, you can enter every process that's running and it will tell you what that process is so you can know whether shutting it down is a good idea or not.
