  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

When im praying it always feels like a one sided conversation. I want to be able to actualy talk to God like as if I was talking to someone sitting right next to me. I know that there are people that do it all the time and I just want to be able to be so deep with God that its like talking to my best friend. I want to be able to hear what he says just like if he was whispering it into my ear. So if you are on of these people who talk to god just as if he were sitting right next to you could you please help me get to this level of prayer:help:

That comes with first of all a sincere desire to have a close personal relationship with Him. First of all tell Him of your desire for this, then get to really know Him by reading His word, talk to Him throughout the day(not just when you go to bed),take everything to Him in prayer and make Him part of everything in your life, such as ask Him to be with you on all outings, and ask for Him to show you His will in everything. Before you make decisions ask His opinion. Spend time at His feet, just reading His word, listening to praise/worship music, and just meditating on Him,what He has done for you and others, read the testimony forum on this site. Ask God to fill you with His spirit. God will Bless you for your desire. :prayer: :groupray:

airborne2k6, your post got me thinking about telephones. Why you may ask? Well, simply put, when we talk to someone on the phon, we usually are removed from them by some distance between us, we cannot see them, yet we assume that they are not only real people, but actually exist at this time. Next time you talk to God, think of it as talking to Him over a telephone. Hope that helps some.

I've actually done that. Helped alot. Especially when I'm stuck in a public place, in a big crowd, or with friends, and I just want to pray...

I whip out my cell and start a conversation. It keeps me mindful that He speaks too, so I don't blab on. Also others around me won't bother me because I'm "on the phone"

(also good when with the kids.. Shhh. mom's on the phone. lol)

It helps me to make my most important communication of the day, might help you too. Course you could just pretend.

John 18:20 - Jesus answered him, I spake openly to the world; I ever taught in the synagogue, and in the temple, whither the Jews always resort; and in secret I have said nothing.

God speaks to you through the Bible. God speaks to you through conviction. God speaks to you through blessings, and He speaks to you through trials. God speaks to you in nature, in purity, and in innocence. When you focus on these things, it's incredibly hard to silence the voice of God!

His will shall be made evident in your life. His message will reach you. His only mediator was Christ Jesus, and there will be no other. When you strive to walk in the image of His Son, the voice of God will become gradually more evident in your life.

God’s silence is the soil in which our pride dies and true faith springs up, a humble faith, a faith which does not challenge God, but surrenders to Him with childlike trust. - Angelo Comastri

God was silent when Paul and Silas were imprisoned, yet at the breaking point, when they began to pray and sing praises unto God, He began to move. If you want to hear God more directly, lift His name in praise, and His loving hand will lift you right along.

We don't need a feeling, a sound, or a vision to know God is near. We need only to seek Him with a humble heart, and open our eyes.

Take a deep breath, hold it in, and let it out. Who gave you that?

Praise the Lord.

May God bless you abundantly, and Christ's peace shower you.

I've wondered this too, I didn't know it was possible to talk to God like that. I always figured most people when they pray they just talk themselves to God, but God doesn't say anything in return like 99% of teh time. He might once in a real blue blue moon (meaning not very often at all), but otherwise its like just talking yourself in your head or outloud to God but no other side of the conversation.

Maybe because where we are at now we are so far removed from God as it is that its hard for us to hear Him and determine what is Him and what is just us. I bet there are times when He is "talking" to us but we miss it.

Does anyone have this where they hear a voice or something talking back to them everytime they pray?

Oh yeah I have had conversations with God, just like with a friend. You ask a question and He answers. It's an awesome experience, one which the Enemy will do all that He can to stop. However if you have a heart to speak to God that way God will honor and speak that way.

However when we allow sin to stop our fellowship it is difficult to hear Him like in a conversation. That is what I'm experiencing lately. But this forum has given me a little kick.

It kills me not to be able to have Him answer when I talk, but It's not always about me asking questions either. Sometimes I have to ask Him what He wants to tell me before I start anything else. I crave that close relationship, I must have it, it is my breath my life. Everything else is miserable, but even when I'm there I know that He wants me to be in that close realtionship too, just as He wants all of us to be that close to Him.

Dudes, I'd thought I'd post a little help for all those seeking to literally hear from the Lord. God first really showed me how to hear and speak to Him through a bible study at my old church. This is an awesome way to do it.

Step 1 You always pray and invite the Holy Spirit to lead you in this conversation and pray that you will hear His voice, and anything else you feel you need to pray for.

Step 2 Ok so you take either a verse or passage write it down and leave some space underneath it.

Step 3 Now read the passage, or if you choose a verse read before and after so you are in the right context.

Step 4 Now listen....Pray again if necessary, but allow God to tell you what He wants you to take from His word. What is it He wants to plant in You?

Step 5 Write it down

Step 6 Respond to Him, whether it is in praise, repentance, another question, whatever.

Step 7 write that down too.

Remember dudes it doesn't have to be some long amazing Word from Him that we need to take to the world, I mean God didn't make all of us prophets. Sometimes it's a small sentence, sometimes it's not, sometimes you'll have the wonderful opportunity of sharing with others, sometimes it's just for you so you could experience that glorious, loving relationship with Him.

Ok I'm normally not one for homework or anything like that however. I have recently experienced where I had this notebook in that class, I remember not understanding all that God said to me, or even all of what I had responded, but when going back I see that He had said that for a later time, and it all began to make sense.

So I encourage those seeking to speak to Him and hear Him to WRITE IT DOWN. It doesn't have to be in the format I explained that was just what helped me to start, and even if it doesn't make sense when you write it, trust and pray that God will reveal to you what it means.

One more thing to point out, the format here was to hear God FIRST. It is Him we are seeking in the firstplace, when it really comes down to it what can we say to such an awesome God, He knows it all anyway, thankfully for us He loves to hear us talk to Him too.

Some people ask me, if I pray, and I tell them yes, even though I don't pray in the same tradition as most people do. I don't go down on my knees, or necessarily close my eyes, but yet I feel I devote hours a day in prayer. How? you may say.

Since God lives inside of me, I don't treat him like an ignored houseguest, I invite him into all my conversations with my conscience (or whatever name you want to call it), so the three of us have lengthy conversations, and since God's opinion matters to me the most, I ask him continually throughout the day for guidance. And so he separates my thoughts removing what is lustful, prideful, pleasing to the flesh, so that I am left with decisions in the rawest form, and when I seek him for further guidance, he's often hush, because he doesn't want to interfere too much with our free will, or else he would have made me a robot.

My best friend is a quiet man, and yet I love him because he listens, in many decisions that I am unsure about. I ask him for guidance, and he provides me with questions to think about it, but the answers, he allows me to find out myself, and from this I learn, and grow.

Dude awesome! That which you call your conscience is most likely the Holy Spirit, as He is in you as well, and because of Jesus Christ Thank the Lord we can talk straight to the Father.

It is very encouraging to hear that others talk with Him this way.:)

I wish you all were in church with me yesterday, a good friend of mine was preaching and he spoke on hearing the voice of God. I have been a christian for 8 years and have been blessed with many real life examples of people who truly walk every moment of thier days in fellowship with God.

I myself have struggled though, with questions? It used to drive me nuts to hear people say "God told me...." Does God really speak to us? Does God really want to speak to me? How does He speak? How do I know its really God and not my own imagination? So hear are a few things I have learned over the years that have helped me, I hope they help you as well!

John 10:27 "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them and they follow me."

Am I one of Gods sheep? Yes threfore I hear His voice. God speaks to me, I just need to learn to recognize it!

Sometimes I wish God spoke audibly and perhaps He does, but more often then not He speaks with that still small voice in my spirit.

Know that prayer is meant to be a conversation with God. Conversations are two way, not one way dialogues. when you pray take time to listen.

I am learning to invite God into every moment of my day, not just my morinign quiet times with Him but my conversations, my joys, sorrows, prayer times asking His guidance in how to step forward.

I also have realized God speaks to me in a unigue way, He knows me better then anyone else, and He speaks to me in ways that would minister to me, that nobody else would probaly get. Like one day I was in a really bad mood and I heard this in my spirit. "Cool it Lori" First off Nobody calls me Lori, but occasionaly God seems to, and cool it is a term I use often and know what it means.....God spoke in my language not some flowery king james type english. Another time I was tryign to make a big descion after much prayer I steped forwarde in what seemd right. soon afterwards I saw two eagles souring in the sky (eagles are a favorite animal of mine) and imediatly I was reminded of the passage in Is and I knew God has showed me those eagles to confirm to me that He was with me and that I was indeed following His will in my descion... God often uses Eagles to minter to my heart.

hear is a process I sort of go through when I want to hear What God has to say on a matter.

I first of all ask God to show me any sin in my life that may hinder our realtionship. then I repent of those sins

secondly I remind myself of the fact that God is a loving God who desires relationshi with us. I remined myself that as my Father He wants to talk to me and teach me even more then I want to hear from Him. I praise God for who He is, for his goodness and His love!!!! I also remind myself that God does speak!!!!

(now we know that there are 4 voices we can hear Gods, our own, the enemies and the world around us.) I get off bymyself to spend time with God so the world around me is not a distraction. I silence my own thoughts, relaese my own worries concernes into Gods hands and wait quietly fo Him to speak (be still and Know that I am God.) Then I take the authority given to us by the Lord and I sielnce the enemy in Jesus name. I sued to feel weird doign this but I usually say somethign real simple like "devil shut up, you have no authority to speak to me and confuse my thoughts, I am a child of God and in the name of Jesus I bind you....I one heard of a little girl who used to say "I shut the door in your face satan!" and she would litterlay get us and slam a door shut (she was like 7) at this point we have eliminated three of the 4 voices we could possbily hear leavign only God to speak. At this point I wait to hear his voice just as I would when I ask my dad a question....we dont ask a question then keep jabering away in a one sided conversation do we...we wait expecting to hear a reply.

God usually puts an impression on my heart, sometimes it is a scripture reference, or a thought or idea. Usually Since I asked God to speak I accept what came into my heart as Gods voice, (checking it against the bible and what I know to be the character of God first to see if it lines up) if it does I do what he says.....I mean if we arent obedient why would God want to tell us anything extra right? And I thank God for speaking to me.

usually the first thought that comes into my spirit is God and it is almost always right away. Someitme I sort of toss out the first thought thinking that was too easy....If I sit in silence to long I start trying to come up with something.

hope that helps....I read a good book I would recomend on it...but I cant reacall the title....And not 100% sure of the author....I think is way Joy Dawson (John Dawson's mom -he is the current president of YWAM)

Wow this is just what God has been teaching me these past few months!

I tend to doubt my discernment, like you said, how do I know this is not from me? Or maybe the Enemy is trying to stear me the wrong way?

But God showed me the same verse in John!

Again...Wow

I have been praying about having the Mind of Christ (1Cor 2:16)
"For who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct him?" But we have the mind of Christ.
And you have just confirmed for me, that we DO have the mind of Christ.

And I see here that even though how He taught us to speak to Him was different, the resulting process is the same. It's amazing, I also have a friend who has been sharing with me how she speaks with God, and she mentioned this same process.

Different words yet the same process, we have to do it individually and we do it a little different, but the basis is the same. It is amazing...Lord that is so awesome!

Those of you who do talk to God in this way, do you hear Him everytime you talk to him (like say everyday), or is it more sporatic?

Do some people get this, and others aren't able to have this, or can anyone?
Well I've noticed that if I am in full submission to the Lord that this type of communication is not hindered and I am regulary speaking and hearing from the Lord on a minute by minute basis. Sometimes it comes in a verse, feelings, and signs that only I can recognize. But also I need that one on one actual conversation where He tells me what I need and regularly hear Him as a friend, teacher, guide, parent, or Master even.

However if I have not submited to God in some way, ie let sin get in the way, Then I have turned my back on Him. If you've tried to have a conversation with your back turned away from someone and a whole bunch of other noises going on, you know it nearly impossible to hear that person.

That's what its like for me, however if God determines I need to hear something despite that, He will come talk firmly in my ear, but most of the time He patiently waits for me to turn around and listen.

Remember Jesus is alive and well, why wouldn't He seek out His own to have a personal conversation?

Time wise for me, (as I am just beginning to learn to listen to Him on a regular basis) I'd say I spend anywhere from 2-3 days of the week hearing from Him like that, then I spend the rest of the week struggling with sin. The process is becoming quicker and I am hoping to up my days to 4 this week :) but it is God's plan not mine.

I forgot also to mention that once in a while He is silently waiting for us to be silent, I mean there's no point in trying to talk over someone when the just keep going. I used to do that I never expected something from God so I never stopped to listen to what HE had to say, it took me a long time to practice being still and knowing that He is God.

The few times I think I've heard God (pretty sure it was), and this has only happened like 3-4 times in my life, well its like a thought in my head that pops in there and its completely in a different "wavelength" than what I had been thinking. Does that make sense? Its like a "loud" thought that just kind of makes you go "huh?" and its like you know it wasn't you thinking it.

Is this what you mean? Does this happen to you?
