I don't think there is anywhere in the Bible that says talk to the devil but plenty of passages telling us to pray to the Father.

Well, the only conversations with the devil I can find are Gen 3 (disastrous), and Matt 4 & 16 (Jesus speaking).

And the only thing I can think of to say to him is "Not listening. Not listening. You're a liar and a thief."

Jud 1,9 Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.

now what should we Christians do?

Jak 4,7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

1Petr 5,8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

1Petr 5,9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.

I conclude that we should not have contact with the devil but resist him by submitting ourselves to Jesus Christ instead - He will fight for us:

2Mo 14,14 The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.

I like what the W.S.C. says

Q-26. How doth Christ execute the office of a king?

A-26. Christ executeth the office of a king, in subduing us to himself, in ruling and defending us,(1) and in restraining and conquering all his and our enemies2)

Scripture Proof [1]

EAV Psa 110:3 Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power, in the beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning: thou hast the dew of thy youth.

EAV Mat 28:18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

EAV Mat 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations,1 baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

EAV Mat 28:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

EAV Joh 17:2 As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.

EAV Col 1:13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:1

Scripture Proof [2]

EAV Psa 2:6 Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.

EAV Psa 2:7 I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.

EAV Psa 2:8 Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.

EAV Psa 2:9 Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.

EAV Psa 110:1 The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.

EAV Psa 110:2 The LORD shall send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: rule thou in the midst of thine enemies.

EAV Mat 12:28 But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you.

EAV 1Co 15:24 Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power.

EAV 1Co 15:25 For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet.

EAV 1Co 15:26 The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.

EAV Col 2:15 And having spoiled1 principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.2

When I have a problem with the Devil I just go to the Lord with it and let him deal with it. I figure that way I am always safe.

Hmm, I actually would rather not butt heads with the devil, Jesus does execute the position of King quite well, I'll let Jesus cross swords with Satan.

I actually don't have enough studying under my belt to form a belief about how active the devil really is in our lives.

I have enough problems battling my own sinful heart... :help:

 Exactly. I do not see any scripture where the Saints spoke to the devil, save for Adam and Eve and that was disasterous. I do see where the saints acquainted themselves with God and the truth of scripture whereby they could recognized the counterfeit. Since Christ died on the Cross and defeated the devil both by his death and his resurrection, I take that as Christ being able to protect us from the wiles of the devil, we are human and weak, where Christ is strong. I do not believe it has anything to do with some mantra we speak to the devil, but Christ's work on the cross that is the prevailing factor.

Once, on the advice of a Baptist pastor I addressed the devil while in prayer, invoking the name of Christ to bind him, almost as if I was performing an exorcism. I didn't find it to be either disasterous or particularly effective, and the tempo of spiritual opposition in my life ticked up a notch. My advice:

If you are strongly led by no less than the Holy Spirit to address the devil, do so carefully. Such things should not be entered into lightly. Otherwise, it is unproductive and possibly dangerous. Save your breath for the Savior!
