  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I was reminded due to my discussions that i have had between some Catholics in here and myself over the Mary, i was reminded of something that i have somewhat taken for granted. I remembered how amazing the birth of Jesus was. A virgin birth. No man slept with her. She wasn't raped. She wasn't consumating a marraige. She was given a child by a miracle from God. This very event is a very important part of our faith. I something that i hope i continue to not take for granted.

Awhile back a lady, call her C, from work was talking to another lady, call her K, about her boyfriend and the issues they were trying to work through that related to their churches. C and K are both Catholic. C's boyfriend is Charismatic, but not a real strong spirtually. We sit in an open cubicle area and C sits right beside me and that is where they were talking. Anyway, K said that it is her belief that different ways to God, not just through Jesus. I had asked her whether Jesus's death on the cross meant nothing and she said no and ended the conversation basically right there.

That last paragraph may not make sense, but what i am trying to say is no one who truly believes that Jesus was born of a Virgin could ever say that there are multiple ways to God.

Does this make sense

To quizzler:

I think I followed you.

Being born of a Virgin is a pretty spectacular event. I don't think any other religion or faith has topped it.

Then you add resurrection from the dead, and yup, Jesus was certainly one class act!

What blows ME away is to look out at the night sky. All of that wonder came from SOME-WHERE, created by SOME-ONE.

And then to think that SOME-ONE loved ME enough to send His Son to die for ME....

"WOW" doesn't quite do it justice.

Peace be with you,

It is my experience that many poeple know of the Lord Jesus Christ and of what they are supposed to believe about him, but in their heart of hearts they have no faith. *shrug* There are priests who deny the Real presence of Christ in the Eucharist - of course thats nothing new. Knox was one of those too. Sad really.

Vow.....Yes, that is an awesome thing to do. I drive an hour to work and sometimes i look at the grass and trees and river and flowers and the sky. I think that God didn't just throw things together. He took great care in it all. Its awesome. And yet, He created it all for us. To place us in it. Amazing.

BR.....That's very true. There are alot of people who go to church and really don't believe everything the church teaches. But they believe in a god and want to belong to a place that beleives in a god, but they belong for the wrong reasons.

But BR. Ive learned a valuable lesson. That's is ok. As long as they are there in God's house, maybe God can truly touch their lives and bring them to Him. Thanks BR for reminding me about that.

It's not about "multiples ways to God". You can pray to the Father directly...you can pray to the son Jesus directly..but you can also pray to Mary and the saints and angels in heaven to ask them to pray for you to God as well. "Multiple ways to God" is a misleading oversimplification.
