  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

So I was lucky enough to get an I-Pod for Christmas and it holds about 240 songs. So I am taking suggestions for what sort of songs I should put on it. I am fairly diverse in my musical tastes so the only things not available for suggestions are....

Country-it blows. I lived in the South for 15 years, no thank you. Though Johnny Cash is allowed :)

Gospel and other religious music-no thank you.

Deathmetal-I have nothing against the type of music actually, but I don't plan on having much insanely loud stuff on the i-pod since I am allowed to listen to it while working.

Here is what I have so far btw.

The Animals-House of the Rising Sun
Black Sabbath-War Pigs
Butthole Surfers-Pepper and Who Was in My Room Last Night
Dick Dale-Miserlou
Flyleaf-I'm so Sick
Garbage-#1 Crush and Stupid Girl
John Lennon-Working Class Hero
Kanye West-Heartless
Living Colour-Cult of Personality
Nirvana-Heart Shaped Box
Zac De la Rocha-Wild International
Primus-My Name is Mud
Pulp Fiction Soundtrack-Girl, You'll Be A Woman Soon
The Police-Roxanne
STP-Sour Girl, Interstate Love Song, Tripping on a Hole in a Paper Heart
The Who-Eminence Front
Yeah, Yeah, Yeah's-Maps

MDFMK - "Missing Time" (last I checked, iTunes didn't have it as it isn't on the full CD that was put out, but it's on the Heavy Metal 2000 soundtrack), "Torpedoes"
Flickerstick - "When The Drugs Wear Off"
Stabbing Westward - "Shame"
Flying Tigers - "Maybe", "Drive (Come With Me)", "Hell For You"
Paris Texas - "Bombs Away"
Cales - "Unknown Reason" (although the myriad of F-bombs dropped in the second half of the song may make it grossly inappropriate)
Tori Amos - "Teenage Hustling"
Cracker - "Teen Angst"

and since Butthole Surfers are on there already, how about "They Came In" and "Shame Of Life"?

Some more, I went through my more recent purchases rather than going off the top of my head.

Others:
Ego Likeness - "Severine" (this might still be free for download from the band's own website)
The Verve - "Love Is Noise"
People In Planes - "Mayday (M'aidez)"
All Girl Summer Fun Band - "Not The One For Me"
Jody Raffoul - "Stay (With Me)"
I Hate Kate - "Bed Of Black Roses"
Placebo, Faith and the Muse, Within Temptation, and The Lund Clements Churchill Trio covers of "Running Up That Hill"
Placebo - "The Bitter End", "Special K"
Aaron Copland, London Symphony Orchestra, & William Warfield - "Hoedown" (from Rodeo) - ok, this is more of a joke, but it is what's for dinner...
Oasis - "Live Forever", "Stop Crying Your Heart Out"
Ben Folds - "Annie Waits"
Paramore - "Let The Flames Begin"
Le Pop - "No Tengo Calma"
Carina Ricco - "Yo No"
Goo Goo Dolls - "Long Way Down"
High and Mighty Color - "Ichirin no Hana"
Eiko Shimamiya - "Higurashi no Naku Koro ni"
Kalafina - "Oblivious"
Suede - "Beautiful Ones"

I also just double-checked Amazon MP3 to see if the following songs were still free. All highly recommended.

The Apples In Stereo - "Energy" (which actually should be the first song offered to download if you go and install the Amazon MP3 Downloader app), and "Can You Feel It?"
Bob Mould - "Paralyzed"
Marah - "Freedom Park"
JJ Grey and Mofro - "Orange Blossoms"
Reverend Horton Heat - "Callin' In Twisted"
Jackopierce - "Summer's Gone"
The Spinto Band - "Pumpkins & Paisley"
Femi Kuti - "Eh Oh"
The Weather MacHines - "Parts Of Speech"

Also the Deep Elm Sampler No. 8: Bonfire of Trust has some good stuff on it. Particularly the 500 Miles to Memphis, Late Night Condition, and both Desoto Jones tracks. Again, free.

The featured free songs this week are also worth checking out, but mileage may vary. I always make sure to check both Amazon MP3 and iTunes weekly for their free material. Many of the ones in that top section were previously featured as freebies, but aren't anymore.

Bad Religion - Stuck a Nerve
Bad Religion - Ten in 2010
Bad Religion - All There Is
Bad Religion - Flat Earth Society (okay, just about anything by Bad Religion)
the Offspring - Kick Him When He's Down

Really? You like Johnny Cash but you don't like Robbie Fulks or Ray Wylie Hubbard or Jerry Jeff Walker or Robert Earl Keen or Todd Snider? Weird.

How about Chip Taylor?
