  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

He did (assuming you are a Christian) bear our sins as well as the punishment for them...

He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification. [Romans 4:25]

He made the One who did not know sin to be sin for us, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. [2 Corinthians 5:21]

This could not just be as simple as a prayer...Christ's death was a legal payment...

According to the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness. [Hebrews 9:22]

For you were called to this, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you should follow in His steps. He did not commit sin, and no deceitwas found in His mouth; when He was reviled, He did not revile in return; when He was suffering, He did not threaten but entrusted Himself to the One who judges justly. He Himself bore our sins in His body on the tree, so that, having died to sins, we might live for righteousness; you have been healed by His wounds. [1 Peter 2:21-24]

For you know that you were redeemed from your empty way of life inherited from the fathers, not with perishable things like silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without defect or blemish. He was chosen before the foundation of the world but was revealed at the end of the times for you who through Him are believers in God, who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God. [1 Peter 1:18-21]

where in the bible does it say only Jesus can take your sins away? if someone prayed to God to take someones' sins away and put them on themself for whatever reason, example: they think that person sinned because of what the person praying told them. everone is responsible for their own actions right? only Jesus can take your sins away and save you from hell? a prayer of sacrifice is impossible?

Well, truly it is only Jesus that can ultimately save us from hell and take away our sins, however, it is possible for a Christian brother to take on someone else's burdens as we are commanded to do.

Man can't save himself.

Ephesians 1:7:In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;

If we/Man could save themselves then salvation is not a free gift.

Romans 5:18:Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.

If man could save himself and others,then why did Jesus come for?

Jesus also extended His Authority to forgive sins unto His disciples -

Jesus' Authority demonstrated -

And they come unto him, bringing one sick of the palsy, which was borne of four.
And when they could not come nigh unto him for the press, they uncovered the roof where he was: and when they had broken it up, they let down the bed wherein the sick of the palsy lay.
When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.
But there were certain of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts,
Why does this man thus speak blasphemies? who can forgive sins but God only?
And immediately when Jesus perceived in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, he said unto them, Why reason ye these things in your hearts?
Whether is it easier to say to the sick of the palsy, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk?
But that ye may know that the Son of man has power on earth to forgive sins, (he saith to the sick of the palsy,)
I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house.
And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this fashion.
<-----> Mark 2:3-12

Jesus' delegation/commissioning of His Spirit and Authority to forgive sins to His disciples -

And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:
Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained.
<-----> John 20:22+23

In essence it is still Christ, but Christ in His Spirit filled followers, Who has the God given Authority to forgive sins.

Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. <-----> 2nd Corinthians 3:17

...Jesus answered them, My Father works hitherto, and I work.
Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.
Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he sees the Father do: for what things soever he does, these also does the Son likewise.
For the Father loves the Son, and shows him all things that himself does: and he will show him greater works than these, that ye may marvel.
For as the Father raises up the dead, and quickens them; even so the Son quickens whom he will.
For the Father judges no man, but has committed all judgment unto the Son:
That all men should honor the Son, even as they honor the Father. He that honors not the Son honors not the Father which has sent him.
<-----> John 5:17-23

And this chain of command continues unto Christ's commissioned disciples also -

He that receives you receives me, and he that receives me receives him that sent me. <-----> Matthew 10:40

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that receives whomsoever I send receives me; and he that receives me receives him that sent me. <-----> John 13:20

He therefore that despises, despises not man, but God, who has also given unto us his holy Spirit. <-----> 1st Thessalonians 4:8

Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:
And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.
<-----> James 5:14+15

The key is that we/they must be truly full of Christ's Spirit.

please explain

Well, Christ alone can bear our sins, but in Christ, we recieve the power to bear one another's burdens;

'Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.' -Galatians 6:2

'We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves.' -Romans 15:1

We've all been called to carry por crosses and follow Christ, but like Christ who stumbled and fell along the way to Calvary, we will grow weak at times and stumble as he did, esp. when bearing a heavy burden as the cross. When we see another stumble when carrying the cross, we should help them get back on their feet, esp. we who are strong. For instance, in the faith, there are those who are stronger than others, esp those who have more experience in the walk of faith as opposed to those who are taking their first baby steps along the same walk. Whatever a strong man in the faith can do to help them who are weak and new-born carry their cross or burden, whether it be spiritual, emotional, or even physical, you should do so. Let's say there's a believer who just gave birth to a new born baby, don't be afraid to help them take care of their baby and also help them with anything else they may need help with, or if there's a new believer who doesn't understand something, share with them what you know about the Word and the walk of faith based on your experience. Whatever way possible, bear one another's burdens, esp as fellow believers. I don't know how else to put it, it's pretty self-explanatory.

Jesus isn't an excuse or justification used by God in order to forgive us, as though God was incapable of forgiving us until Jesus died. Rather, Christ came to destroy the very power of sin and give freedom and salvation from sin and all its power by His death and resurrection from the dead. Christ, therefore, as Victor over Sin, has brought us into His own victory and resurrection power thereby liberating us from Sin's destructive captivity.

So it's not that God needs Jesus to forgive us, it's that in Jesus God has condescended and united Himself to our humanity in order that by His dying and rising might set us free from Sin, Death and the Devil. God united Himself to humanity in Christ in order that mankind might be united to God in Christ; God came and entered into our lawlessness (becoming it's greatest Victim) in order that we might be made to enter into God's righteousness and thereby becoming--in Christ--"more than conquerors".

Forgiveness is more than pardon; it is a new and liberated life set free from Sin's violent and destructive prison house.
