You do know that it was back in Genesis 3 that Jesus' virgin birth and defeat of Satan was prophesied, do you not?

nope. No evidence for either of these, I suppose? In fact, as far as you're concerned, Satan is still at it, isn't he?

Another question: Adam and Eve somehow heard YHWH and a snake. They listened to the snake. From their perspective how were they supposed to know which of the two were telling the truth? They had not even had a childhood yet. They listened to both sides and decided one had the better advice. For this they were punished?

Another question: Genesis said God paraded all the animals in front of Adam. Did the penguin walk all the way from Antarctica so Adam could name it?

I did. It's another of those dates the church got wrong. Jesus was not born in December, more likely September or October. Now it's becoming a super festival where people just have fun. Much like the celebrations Christianity tried to appropriate.

From their standpoint (and ours) it seemed like they were punished. Knowing right from wrong, good from evil and being aware of one's own mortality is a heavy burdent to bear.

Does it matter?

"Do not" means "don't."

Genesis 2:17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

God could have simply said,

Genesis 2:17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it.

But He didn't.

And for the record, I have no doubt they knew which of the two were telling the truth.

Even a dog understands "NO!"

Punishment !? It is far far far worse today, for those who fail to know right from wrong ! They have a lot of company, but the end thereof is the way of death! Definitely worse than LIFE !

While I think there is much more to the story, to be fair, in the chronology of the serpent story in Genesis, the devil didn’t resemble a snake until after he convinced Eve to sin.

The real story is that Adam and Eve were incarnate celestials from heaven who arrived on a previously populated, old, evolved earth to replace the preveous, fallen administration. They had been duly warned about what to expect. The fallen “prince of this world” convinced Eve to mate with Cain’s real father, a Nodite leader in order to inject her superior genes into the gene pool thus speeding up the rehabilitation of the backward races. It had nothing to do with eating fruit.
