  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

taking drugs

Being as the bible is quite old, there weren't prescription drugs, meth, coke, etc. There were plants people smoked, etc...

Since the bible really can't speak much to this--

I would ask yourself: does taking certain drugs harm you in any way? How about your family? Friends? Do you need the drug? Will you die without it? Or do you THINK you will die without it, and gotta have a "fix".

Taking a prescription after a surgery is one thing. Dropping 10 pills to get a "fix" is not, and probably a "sin".

Talking about medicines , do you feel taking marijuana for an illness ranging from back spasms to cnacer and aids patients would be a valid reason in the eyes of the Lord. I know this, that we should not do things that will make our brother stumble, so I cannot see using illicit drugs would be favorable in the eyes of God.

Wouldn't popping pils be similar as being drunk with wine? The Bible speaks against that.

I think whatever drug a Doctor says to use whether it's pot, or morphine etc. it then becomes a medicine. I think we should make sure our heart is in the right place when doing it. Don't just do it to be high. Pray about it, there's power in prayer.

What if it's prescribed by a doctor?

It's against God to disobey the laws of your nation

What if you live in a country or place where its the law to not practice your faith in God? So then, by your terms, you would be commiting a sin by believing in God.

Is it me or is this part of the Bible the bastion of why you must be conservative if you're christian? can you answer me this then...why were the pharisees angry with or going after Jesus?

If using drugs clouds your relationship with God, then it is bad. You're right to wonder...when people say "Drugs are sinful." ... caffeine is as much of a drug as cocaine. The drugs that happen to be illegal in the US carry a higher rate of dangerous addiction that can cause all sorts of problems in your relationship with God, others, even knowing yourself. But something like caffeine... people are addicted to it - if they NEED it every morning - and I don't think it is good to be addicted to anything, but caffeine is not so bad in that if you can't get a cup of coffee, you're not going to sell your television to support the habit. When the drugs control you, then it is sin. Also, people have different predispositions. I know people who loved pot the first time they tried it and became daily potheads. Others think its ok, but would never think of doing it every day. It works like that with all drugs. In my opinion, I can't understand why people are alcoholics, sure I like a good beer but I wouldnt want to be drunk each day, its just not my idea of fun. But then again I probably don't have an alcoholic predisposition. Basically, know yourself, know your limits, and make sure you keep your relationship with God strong.

Actually the #1 most addictive drug is nicotine, followed by herion followed by caffeine. It has nothing to do with addictiveness that makes a certain drug illegal. Every natural drug can have health benefits in small amounts, on the same token, every drug can be harmful in large amounts.
I also support medical cannabis and other medicinal plants.

Why do you pesonally feel that drugs (any kind, not just illegal) are wrong. I'm not trying to "support" the use of drugs, I just want to know. I want this to be a good, formal debate.

Paul said everything is permissable for him but not everything is good for him. I base my decisions on this simple statement. It does not take a rocket scientist to know that drugs aint that good to you; body mind and soul.

Second If you can take drugs without feeling guilt then thats excellent but I have not encountered that person yet. The feeling of guilt of guilt has bad effect on people as we all know.
