  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Right now, these forums have become addictive -- and absolutely toxic -- for me.

They may be good for other people, but they're having the same effect on me as that "just one drink" is for an alcoholic.

In a chat I was having with one of the staff members, the Million Watt Light Bulb went on when I realized it's a lot safer (and more comfortable) to come here, get mad as Hell (and Hell gets pretty mad!) at certain posters; but the real issues going on are:

a) I seem to be turning into an adrenaline junkie (and these forums are a good way to get lots and lots of adrenaline going); and

b) An uncle and an aunt in the same family died within a month of each other, my stepmother died two weeks after that, my dad had a serious stroke, my stepsister had a near-fatal stroke, my dad developed blood clots (as a result of the stroke) which required surgery, and I brought back a "friend" (e.g. a staph infection which I picked up at the rehab hospital where my dad is staying -- and antibiotics have cleared it up although there will be residual skin scarring from the infection) from the rehab hospital where my dad is recovering. It's a lot easier (and safer) to feel angry than it is to feel sad (or to grieve).

Emotionally, I'm tapped out -- and this place has beome absolutely toxic for me.

The way for me to successfully "regroup" is for me to stay away, and for me not to take the first metaphorical drink.

When I'm ready, I'll come back. In the meantime, there are plenty of other much more pleasant forums and if you want my cottage cheese/cucumber salad recipe (the Hungarian paprika and the Tabasco are the special ingredients!) you know where to go.

I'm so sorry that you're going through some tough times. I'll pray for you. And I totally know what you mean about the adrenaline thing. It's so amazingly addictive, isn't it? And so dang hard to resist...But good luck to you and may God (the Christian god, that is, since you're apparently a Lutheran) bless you.

*hugs* I'm sorry you've been through so much in such a short span of time Uber. Your presence will be missed, but I know that sometimes we all have to do what we have to do. Sometimes that means stepping away from something and re-grouping. I do hope to see you again though. Be good and take care of yourself.
