Could someone please tell me what a Taize service is? One of the LCMS churches near me has this for their 8:30am service. Thanks!

WELS is doing this?! That's hard to believe. We were doing that 15 years ago in the Charismatic church with the singing in tongues. It put us in the mode. It even says "reformed" and was used in the RIM (Renewal in Missouri) Charismatic movement. Back then they used the innocous phrase "prayer and praise service". I think this is one example of the majority of the WELS people not knowing what's going on. Probably the synod leaders don't know it's going on either. If they do---watch out.

Why it is when ever I see the word Taize I think of this??

Yep----that's how it started. Did it on Saturday nights occasionally. It was just considered a supplement to Lutheran fellowship and eventually influenced and infiltrated the LCMS. It was a major influence in forming the RIM (Charismatic) movement in Missouri.GB, it's not a movement, it's a worship service.
Any service, when done incorrectly, can be a stumbling block. If reformed churches were using the Divine Service incorrectly, would you be wary of it?
Taize services are not done regularly and they do not replace liturgical Sunday morning services. They are simply meditation services, mostly with music.

The article explains what this type of service is, but I don't see any endorsement from WELS as a whole that this is seeing wide-spread use in our churches. The article mentions that this type of service will be used at Atonement church through 2004.
I just noticed that too.
