  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I just googled 'physics tachyon' and looked at the first couple of hits. I've also been slightly curious about the Tachyon. It's a hypothetical particle thought up in theoretical physics; I don't suppose they found it yet. The two sites I looked at seem to give good explanations. They even give you the origin of the name. In fact the latter article mentions light 'particles' as having zero rest mass. I think for me it cleared up some of the confusion about photons being 'massless particles' as if that were an oxymorn. Apparently:

Normal matter (Tardyons) have positive rest mass => Travels less than speed of light
Photons, Neutrinos (Luxons) have 0 rest mass => Always travel at speed of light
'Tachyons' have negative rest mass => Travel greater than speed of light

Of course I'm not an expert on the subject yet, so don't take my word for it. No doubt there's more to it than that.

thanks.

I remember my lecturer breifly mentioning something about an experiment in Australia or NZ (maybe) that claimed to have been expecting particles to arrive at a certian time and a split second befroe the expected time an anomoly apeared.

They tried to recreate this event but to no sucsess.
