  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather
with Me scatters abroad.

What does it mean to gather? As it is written:

Return, faithless people,” declares the LORD, “for I am your husband. I will choose you—one from a town and two from a clan—and bring you to Zion. Jeremiah 3:14

^^^ that is how the Lord gathers.

We, as ambassadors of the Lord gather with Him, as it is written, when we:

"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit" Matthew 28:19

"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth." Acts of the Apostles 1:8

"But in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect," 1 Peter 3:15

"For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?" Romans 10:13-14

So are you saying God's people have stopped gathering? That seems to be your implication here... so I'm curious.

I went on to quote in #5
What does it mean to you? Do you see a connection to this?
John 4:
35
Do you not say, ‘There are still four months and then comes the harvest’?
Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already
white for harvest!

36 And he who reaps receives wages, and gathers fruit for eternal life, that both
he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together.

37 For in this the saying is true: ‘One sows and another reaps.’
38 I sent you to reap that for which you have not labored; others have labored,
and you have entered into their labors.*

Have you entered into that labor? There is one generation that gathers. (Psalm 22:30 in the OP)
So the implications of what Jesus is saying is that the generation that belongs to Him are they
that are committed to gathering(completing the work of others)*, sowing and reaping as well.

But all Christians are engaged in this work, in accord with their gifts. Whether they support the labors (financial support or with their prayers for those doing the labor), or themselves labor (shining their light as they go), they are all actively engaged for the salvation of souls.

I myself do little, but I try to touch all I know with the knowledge of Christ.. how little effect or how much effect only God knows.

So again, what point are you trying to make? Just that we should? You seemed a bit condemning of God's people in your post (as if they aren't actively working to gather) so I'm curious...

The exhortation is certainly to continue in whatever capacity you are able, as you have said. If
you are suggesting that I am condemning anyone by quoting Proverbs 30, Deuteronomy 28, or
Matthew 12:25-30, I would reply that it is Jesus who is saying "if you aren't gathering with me,
you are scattering abroad". The words of the Law, the sages, and the prophets convey the serious
nature of the admonition. I simply tied them together around the words of the sage Agur, whose name means "to gather" as he describes a people who "do not gather". I simply would call this a Bible study, centered around a key word association, which I do often, to show connections made from the Law, the prophets, the writings, and on into the New Testament.

Proverbs 30:
11
A generation curses its father, and does not bless its mother.
12 A generation that is pure in its own eyes, but is not washed from its filthiness.
13 A generation—oh, how lofty are their eyes! and their eyelids are lifted up.
14 A generation whose teeth are swords, and whose fangs knives,
To devour the poor from off the earth, and the needy from among men.

This implication was never made. I would say that the church overall has not lost focus on the mission
to spread gospel. I would call the study a word of exhortation for anyone who has become lukewarm.

Okay... that's fine. It didn't come across that way when you made this accusatory statement in the OP:

"This is the generation the Lord has cursed by The Law."

But it's likely I just read it wrong... I took "this" to mean the generation we are now in. My mistake then... :)

Many miss the implication of the Messianic Psalm 22:30, that in Christ there is one seed, one
generation.

30 "A seed shall serve him; it shall be accounted to the Lord for a generation".
We have always been the generation called to gather, to bear much fruit, so in that regard, the word generation is distinct from how it would normally have been used in the OT, and its genealogies.

I changed the wording in the OP in reference to the Deuteronomy curses in response to your comment.

You probably didn't have to do that, it was just the way I saw it... pretty sure I'd be alone there!

But God bless your conscientiousness... :) Maybe it will help my twin, should I have one! Haha

An exception here?*

Psalm 24:
3
Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord?
Or who may stand in His holy place?
4 He who has clean hands and a pure heart,
Who has not lifted up his soul to an idol,
Nor sworn deceitfully.
5 He shall receive blessing from the Lord,
And righteousness from the God of his salvation.
6 This is Jacob, the generation* of those who seek Him,
Who seek Your face. Selah
7
Lift up your heads, O you gates!
And be lifted up, you everlasting doors!
And the King of glory shall come in.
8 Who is this King of glory?
The Lord strong and mighty,
The Lord mighty in battle.
9 Lift up your heads, O you gates!
Lift up, you everlasting doors!
And the King of glory shall come in.
10 Who is this King of glory?
The Lord of hosts,
He is the King of glory. Selah
Halleluyah!

Ahh... you know I missed that one... very good, very informative... I'll have to think of all the implications in that... there are many...
