  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

well, what you want is not to have spyware, you want rid of spyware.....here is a couple of links that clean out spyware, you have to download and install the software, also, if you don't have a firewall you should install one and I'll list it also......

AdAware = http://www.lavasoft.de/
SpyBot = http://security.kolla.de/

Evee I have had trouble with my computer getting viruses also.
It Sounds as if you are doing things right now.
I believe those viruses do damage, my computer is so slow now.
Run your virus check daily that may help.
With Norton Antivirus it should scan once a week by itself on Friday nights at 8pm as long as the computer is on.....and as long as the auto protect is turned on, which it should automatically do so, then you do not need to scan every day because you are constantly being protected.....Also, do not run any other antivirus software at the same time as norton because it can cause false virus alearts and it can also cause your system to run really slow......

BTW, How old is your computer? What version of Norton Antivirus do you have? What version of windows?

Maybe it was false alarm.

Not sure what version of Nortons I have need to check.
I just had it put on.
I also turned my pc off at times.
I suppose I need to leave it on.:confused:

From experiece I've seen even having 2 antiviruses installed at the same time period can cause problems....you need to uninstall one or the other because even if the autoprotect is not on on one of them, it still can pick up the virus definitions and can go off from that.....also, with 2 antiviruses on you could be leaving yourself open to getting a virus because the scanners may not be working properly and may not detect anything.....

I have found out with what little experience I have I like avg best.
It seems to detect first.
This pc man at the shop said to me ahh you should have double protection now.
You need to find a new computer shop then because no real computer techniction in his right mind would ever tell you that having 2 antivirus softwares running is good....As for AVG over Norton, it all depends on which one is older...personally I like Norton because I can update it using live update, now if you are not able to use liveupdate than it means you are way out of date and you need to get an up to date antivirus installed, especially with all the virueses and worms that have been going around....also, if you are going to stay with AVG then I suggest that you install a firewall also because AVG isn't going to protect you from the worms like norton would......

My husband and I own a computer business and the biggest problem we are seeing lately is systems filled with spyware. They will slow a computer down to a crawl in no time at all. Both AdAware and SpyBot are good programs for combating spyware. We use Spy Sweeper and feel it does a much better job though. As for an anti-virus program, we go with Norton. The live update feature takes the hassle of remembering to update the virus definitions and program. Norton Personal Firewall is also a great prgram and I think much easier to configure and more user friendly than Zone Alarm (we use the firewall that came with our dsl modem though).

When I was building PC's that's all I would install was Norton Systemworks & Norton Internet Security and it's all I have on my systems here at home and it's made my life so much easier, I don't even worry when I hear about the worms and viruses going around because I know that my Norton will take care of it and I have Liveupdate set to go by itself besides the once a week I check for program updates......

I still work on systems, but I don't build them anymore and have used AdAware and Spybot, but I was wondering what this Spy Sweeper is? Do you have a web site for it?

Thanks :)

The website for Spy Sweeper is

http://www.webroot.com/wb/products/spysweeper/index.php

It's a nice program that you can set to run in the background and monitor while you are surfing the internet and remove tracking cookies and spyware automatically as soon as they are downloaded onto your computer. It can also be set to automatically update the definitions and the program. We have been real happy with it.
