  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi folks!

Has anyone read A New Systematic Theology Of The Christian Faith 2nd Edition - Revised And Updated by Robert Raymond? If so could you provide some comments on its quality? I know Raymond is a professor at Knox Seminary but that is about all that I know about him.

I currently own Louis Berkhof's Systematic Theology but I am looking to add to my library.

Thanks and God Bless

I have Reymond's first edition, and I have heard the second gets better with some modifications made in light of his critics.

I think it is an excellent Reformed Systematic. He deals with a number of contemporary issues since Berkhof, has a great section on the infralapsarian/supralapsarian debate, and his part in dealing with the doctrine of the knowledge of God is worth a lot in itself. I really like the fact that he prints out the verses he uses to defend his position (so you don't have to keep looking them up), and the layout is easy to read.

This would make a great resource, I highly recommend it.

Sincerely,

~Jason

I second that! Reymond's Systematic Theology is pretty wonderful. The section on baptism is the best I have ever read (possibly with the exception of Calvin's Institutes). He also deals very well with the continuity of the covenants. Anyway, as a whole it is the greatest modern Reformed systematic theology out there IMHO.

Grace.
