  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Are any of you interested in this art form? I have just become greatly interested in it and I'm going to get the materials to start working on a sword or knife very soon. So, i was wondering if anyone else likes forging and has any tips for a begginer.

I signed up for a forum and they have online tutorials, but i'll basically teach myself. Yeah, it does seem like alot of money to work in, without alot of income from your work. But its not about money, i suppose. The anvil will be a bizatch to load into my truck though, seeing as they weigh upwards of 150 lbs. *clutches back just thinking about it*

yes... just the hobbie I have been looking for! Why didn't I think of it before??? Sword... forging.

I could forge money, I could forge ID's for underage kids, I could even forge immigration documents... but no, I think I will forge swords.

I could be that guy who makes the sword for the Highlander guy... I think his name was "the sword making guy on Highlander". he he he. sounds different.

so what all exactlly do you need cuz i would really like to do that once my finances are ok again.
You need a heat source, usually the forge. You need the steel (of course), tongs, hammer(s), something to beat the metal on (anvil or something else), and stuff to protect yourself with (gloves, etc). Oh, and a water quench for heat treating. I think i named it all.
