Swing Dancing? (re-post)

Well hello Guys and Gals!!

I am a swing dance instructor and choreographer based here in the Los Angeles area. I have created the Southern California Lindy Hop Ministries and as of this posting is generating some very good exposure among the Christian community.

I created the ministry because there really is no place for Christians to go learn the dance or to go dance in a "Godley" environment. God gave me the gift of swing dancing and I am using it to reach out to others and in time, I am sure that many will be impacted by the ministry. I have geared this ministry towards the High school kids, the singles and young adults.

Every now and then I get those people who think swing dancing is all about sex. To them I say, hogwash!! I also get from time to time people attacking me verbally because they think they are superior to us Christians. That is fine too and I am not afraid to stand on my own two feet. My passion is to teach the dance I love so much and if you really think about it, the dance represents a time when we as a nation had morals and values unlike today.

It .is. fun. I took swing dance classes as my local athletic club. Carefully kept secret, though - the old ladies and married women there with their husbands are the most fun to dance with. They have nothing to prove, are comfortable, and just have fun!

I'm a big fan of all kinds of (real) dancing, like swing, cha-cha, two-step, etc. Growing up as a Baptist Preacher's son, we were taught that all forms of dancing are evil, and I think that tends to keep some Christians away. As others have pointed out, sex is the furthest thing from my mind when I'm dancing.

Hey! I'm about 15 miles from there right now (at CSUN).

My 11 year old brother is a really good swing dancer, but I'm terrible.

Sorry Kristine, we don't have plans to move to Canada anytime soon. I can sympathize with your problem though, because it's the same with contra dancing, which I love. There are plenty of places to go around here, but the differences in mentality make it tough, and I never really fit in.
