My sister just found out she has the swine flu as does her boyfriend and friend. This is the flu that caused my fear of germs this year and caused me to not even leave my house for over a week. I did ask for prayer at my church concerning this fear and a woman said she felt led to give me this scripture Luke 10:18-19 "18 And He said to them, I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. 19 Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you." A few months prior to this fear and her saying that God spoke that same verse, but including the last part vs. 20 with it. "20 Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven. I don't know if this was just referring to that I didn't need to fear getting the flu or just that I didn't need to fear dying from it which was the real fear with getting it. Now that my sister has it I'm so worried for her and afraid I will get it since we were both at my mom's house even though I didn't actually see her. She even admitted that she is a little worried herself. She is 23 years old. Please pray with me that she will have a complete recovery from it and won't get mono which the doctor said is when it gets serious or anything else as a result from it. Also pray that I don't get it as I wasn't able to get my flu shot this year due to a couple infections I had.

First of all, I'm saying a prayer for you right now. I have a fear of germs too (norovirus specifically) and I can definitely understand how you are feeling.
Secondly, did you get a flu shot? The shot this year does protect against the swine flu.

I had a fear of that as well when it was going around here because I have 3 children. No I wasn't able to get my shot this year. At first we didn't have insurance and then when we finally got it I had a UTI that turned into a bladder infection and when that healed up and all the symptoms went away I got a cold or sinus infection and still have some sinus stuff going on. I hope it didn't turn into anything else. I'm going to go to the doctor here soon to make sure and if I don't have any type of infection I will ask for the shot. I heard it starts building antibodies right away but just isn't fully effective for 2 weeks.
My sister told me that like 10 people that were with her in Austin all have this flu and that a few are refusing to go to the doctor and are going out and about going to gyms and restaurants and things like that! I pray they realize the seriousness of their actions and that it could cost someone their life! These are all college kids that I don't think understand the ramifications of spreading a serious illness like that and that someone who is compromised in their immune system could die from it.

My daughter was the first person in our county to catch the Swine Flu in 2009 when it first came out. I started crying at the doctor. He told me that yes, it can get bad, but for the VAST MAJORITY of people it doesn't. She was fine. Also, maybe your doctor could start you on tamiflu if you are worried? They gave us tamiflu at the time (since it was supposed to be a catastrophic thing at that time...which it didn't end up being) and none of the rest of us caught it!
I have 3 kids too. It is hard when you worry that one or all of them could get this stuff!

Thank y'all for the prayers. So far my sister, her boyfriend and two roommates are doing much better. She did tell me that the guys seem to be recovering faster than the girls, but it's probably because they have better immune systems. I'm still worrying about her, but am glad to hear that she is feeling better and that is a relief. I can't shake the fear of possibly getting this flu now especially since my kids and I were all at my moms house. To make things worse my mom just doesn't understand how I can be afraid and tells me that I need to think of this logically, but as many of you know with OCD it's not about logic because there is always that what if. She just doesn't seem to understand that at all. I just need to put my trust in God and believe that He has me in His hands and is protecting me.
