  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

speaking of accents and swearing...

I always find it funny to hear British people swear. That accent is sometimes just so prim and proper, so then to hear some vulgarity with it is such a weird dichotomy. It makes me laugh. Clive Owen especially.

Being in the US is fun. I can swear with impunity, because very few people have actually heard our swears before, and even if they have, they hear them so infrequently they don't get offended.

Mwahahaha.

hah, you should hear an aussie swear. those are the guys who you picture eating an entire glass mug before cursing out your grandmother using every "bad" word in the book. there is a certain charm about that ;)

My heritage is strongly german and I learned those words from my grandpa. Mom was NOT happy about that. I don't cuss very much to begin with, and swearing in german, for me, kinda lessens the blow. And I generally swear out of frustration and I've honestly only sworn at one other person and that was my ex-husband.

there definately seems to be a time and place for profanity, even when most would consider it inappropriate. profanity directed at someone is always meant to offend, even when it goes against your "moral code" to purposefully offend someone. intentional offense is a natural way to show disapproval toward someone's actions. i don't feel that this is an immoral act, accept when it is meant to belittle someone else(like for example demeaning racial slurs without the intent for humor).

christians ain't the only pl who hate swearing words...

I blocked half of my contacts on msn cuz they sweared...

You're the same age as my son and there's nothing worse than me looking at his facebook and seeing where several of his friends have said vulgar things or used profanity. Twice I've deleted those types people from his friends list without saying anything to him. He's never noticed they're missing, so it wasn't a big loss.

Ideally, we shouldn't need curse words to express our emotions.

You did that? I find that to be much worse than any swearing. Say he was taking 5 bucks from your wallet every couple of weeks, and you never noticed. Would that be "no big loss" or would you punish him if you found out?

If you find his FB friends' language offensive, you should talk to him about it rather than secretly logging into his account and deleting them. How is he going to learn from it otherwise?

I don't think there is anyone who absolutely needs to curse to express themselves. But in many occasions, it sure does come in handy.

thet's YOUR opinion and you can't do nothing about MINE, I tihnk swearing is totaly sumthing disrespectful, it shuldn't be attributed ANY quality of being funny, its the worst thing a man can do to u, even worse than punchin or kickin you in ma opinion, and MY EYES CANT SEE SWEARINGS, evben if my best friend would swear, I would totaly reject him no matter how much it affects both of us, I just don't care, I just hate it more than I hate death.

Um...deleting people my son barely knows from his facebook is nothing like stealing money from someone. He understands that having facebook is a privilege, not a right, and he understands what comes with that.

If you find his FB friends' language offensive, you should talk to him about it rather than secretly logging into his account and deleting them. How is he going to learn from it otherwise?

I do talk to him about it. I just don't talk about in the context of friends he barely knows on Facebook. And I don't "secretly" log in. My son knows I check his facebook every night - and he knows WHY we do it every night. A year or so ago, he got caught up with the wrong kinds of people in an online community. His behavior got him grounded for a month and no computer privileges except for homework for over 6 months. He is a much more responsible kid now when it comes to the internet. He knows I've deleted a couple of people, and I do actually tell him now and then if it happens. Or...we even sit down and I let HIM make the decision if he wants to delete them or not.

But there are times I'd just rather him not even see what was written and I figure that I don't my son hanging out with that kind of person. If they used that type of language in my house I'd ask them to leave.

I don't think there is anyone who absolutely needs to curse to express themselves. But in many occasions, it sure does come in handy.

No, not really. Cursing simply makes us the immature ones, the ones who couldn't hold our tongues, the ones who didn't practice self-control. I have more respect for someone who could very well be in a situation where cursing could be "called for" and yet still hold their tongue than the person who decides to swear about it.
