  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Please help!
A few months ago I was really angry at God and feeling totally disconnected and I yelled "I'm swearing an oath that I swear my soul to the Devil!" I went with it for a few weeks thinking maybe I wanted to. I wrote off God. A few weeks later I felt terrible and asked for forgiveness but LOTS of things still bother me.
(1) Psalm 24:4
(2) MATT 12:36-37
(2) Peter having to tell Jesus 3 times that he loved him after SWEARING he didn't know him
(3) "In your words are life and death"
(4) Spiritual laws that might be binding me to my word!
(5) That it's hopeless!
PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Peter had to confess his love for Christ three times because he denied Christ three times. Your soul belongs to God and is not your own. It is not yours to give to Satan, hence Satan does not have it. I can say "I hereby give the White House to France" and it's still gonna be under America's control.

Denver,

Obviously, the objective nature of what you did is serious. At the same time, you have not committed the unpardonable sin either. The only sin that cannot be pardoned is the one that one does not want forgiveness for. Indeed, look at Peter who swore he did not know Jesus - and then repented and was obviously completely forgiven.

The best case scenario is that you simply pouted for a little while and now have gotten over it and can move on with life. Worst case scenario, you committed a serious sin and need not only to repent of it but to renounce that oath and all rebellion against God to remove any chains that the devil may have placed upon you in your swearing yourself to him. If you are Catholic, as PD said, go to confession. Once you do this, rest assured of God forgiveness and do not in your pride think that you've committed a sin bigger than God can deal with and dissolve.

The peace of Christ be with you.

I think forgivness is on the cards for that, but i think the only thing is if you either:
1) Do something hectic (Im not sure what exactly) to the holy spirit or
2) Sell your soul to the devil

will b praying for you

No... it is not hopeless! Not at all! That's Satan talking to you and nothing more!

If you are Catholic, go to conefession.

But whatever you are I am assuming you are a Christian. Don't ever trust in your own sins more than God' mercy.

Look, the Bible speaks of blasphamy against the Holy Spirit being the unforgiveable sin. But the blasphamy against the Holy Spirit is not simply saying some stupid thing in the heat of the moment like some stupid movie about Dracula (sorry, I have that image stuck in my head). That's Hollywood crap. Sure, what you did was wrong and I am not trying to make it seem like it was nothing to worry about. But the sin against the HOly Spirit is precisely beleiving in your own sins more than God. That you have done something so horrible that not even he would forgive you. IN doing so, you are actively shoving God out of your life and actively denying the forgiveness he wishes to grant you. He will never lord his forgiveness onto you. He will give it freely... but you have to want it.

Here's the trick. Actually desiring it. desire is not just a simple feeling of "gee, I wish I had that". I mean, I can say, "I gee I wish I had a job" but if I jsut sit around all day and do nothign to actually find a job then... honestly, I don't want a job. I can say "Gee, I wish I weren't addicted to alchohol" but if the next time the temptation comes up for alcohol I give in like that and don't even care and tell myself "I'll take care of that tomorrow" then, I hate to say it but I really don't wish that.. in fact, my wish is that alcoholo control my life.

If you want to give yourself to God.. then do it! Pray fr forgiveness. It;s difficult if you are a protestant since you don't have confession as a sacrament. Even apart from the sacramental grace that is bestowed in the act of Absolution (as bestowed especially on the apostles in the Scriptures), it offers a psychological benefit in that it offers closure. It's easy for me to tell you to stop doubting your savlation and to ask forgiveness... but often, in circumstances like these, people have a hard time every TRULY forgiving themselves or recognizing that they are truly forgiven and carry it on their backs for their entire lives. That's dangerous living. iT wasn't until my fiance gave a full lifetime confession upon entering the (Orthodox) Chruch that she felt fully forgiven for all the nagging sins that haunted her throughout her life (even though she never let it show before that).

Also, if you often feel the need to blurt out things that you know you shouldn't but it's an urge to do the forbidden, you may want to talk to a therapist about this. Maybe this doesnt' describe you but if you do stuff like this every once in a while, to God or even to people (whereas most people might never or only once or twice in their life say something as serious as that) then you may want to look into that. Just a suggestion.

My prayers will be with you. Don't fear brother, God loves you and Satan does not EVER own your soul. He is NOT God's opposite.

John

Denver, be at peace, hopeless and God do not go together. There is no one beyond God's power of hope and life. God wants you to have life in him, place your trust in his power and Godhood. Reject Satan, put Jesus words to practice in your life and you're on your way. Get to know your Lord and Savior, God bless.

God bless. brother. Denver, go to Church tomorrow and we'll all pray for you, including Our blessed Mother whom the fallen angels are in dread of, evil cannot stand the obedience and humility of the woman, par excellence. Together with her we lift you up to our awesome God.

Of course not! That last message was a little extreme, giving you the option to sell your soul to the devil, but don't take it literally. It WAS only an option, and not even seriously meant.

And of course everyone else (including me) are telling you that it is not hopeless. No way! By expressing your regret and asking for help, you have already made yourself prefectly helpable.

OK, I assume you are not a Catholic, so Confession is not on the cards. What is the traditional way of asking for forgiveness for a sin in your church/community?

P.S. (editing, three minutes later) Wow! Four very wise posts, while I was typing this message! I have become redundant. Now be at peace and follow the wise advice.
