Even with context the anomaly exists...I have wondered the same thing. Like in the Bible when it talks about people being damned, but you can't use that same word in another way. I think it ultimately comes down to context.
For example, (and I won't put either in here because I'm not sure what CF will and won't filter), there's a four letter word that begins with 'C', and one that begins with 'S' (they both are used interchangeably, and sometimes refer to excrement...that should hopefully give away what the words are lol).
One is considered a PG word, the other is considered a totally taboo word in the US for the most part.
Was is one considered so much more taboo than the other?...even though they have identical uses and meanings?
