  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have wondered the same thing. Like in the Bible when it talks about people being damned, but you can't use that same word in another way. I think it ultimately comes down to context.
Even with context the anomaly exists...

For example, (and I won't put either in here because I'm not sure what CF will and won't filter), there's a four letter word that begins with 'C', and one that begins with 'S' (they both are used interchangeably, and sometimes refer to excrement...that should hopefully give away what the words are lol).

One is considered a PG word, the other is considered a totally taboo word in the US for the most part.

Was is one considered so much more taboo than the other?...even though they have identical uses and meanings?

True... I don't quite understand it either, to be honest.

That may not work if your character is one who would be expected to swear a blue streak.

Of course one can always use the 1960s cartoon short hand for swearing:

"!@#@##$$$%%%**%%%" And Don't you forget it!

Another alternative is to use the Prez Nixon short hand for the transcripts of his White House tapes when he swore: [expletive deleted]

That would be pretty funny XD
