Almost all of our curse words are a cultural thing. Many of our "Christian" rules in the church are cultural rules (but that's a different topic). Aside from words that take the Lord's name in vain (technically God's name isn't God, but that's treading a fine line - "Jesus Christ," however, is not debatable), and slang terms that specifically describe things relating to sex, which is supposed to be a sacred act.

Slang terms for excrement, donkeys or other animals, and synonyms for condemnation I have no problem with.

Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.

From religioustolerance.org:

This verse originally meant that one is not to use the name of God for "any frivolous or malicious purpose or in magic." Today, it is often mistakenly interpreted as prohibiting swearing. This has nothing to do with its original meaning.

Most of the swear words I can think of (hmmm, is that a sin?) are all (if not mostly) somehow related to the body. Our bodies are the place where God lives and we were made in his likeness. So swearing in any form (sometimes other words are used but the meaning is still the same) would be defamatory towards Gods image.

Hope that helps.

That's true. Social restrictions on language have nothing to do with the intrinsic value (or lack thereof) of any combination of letters.
