Hello! My name is Francois Tremblay and I am conducting an informal survey on the dynamics of belief. I would like you to give your position on the following social forces:
Government, Religion, Nationalism, the Family Structure, and Popular Culture.

For ease of response and compilation, please use the following answer key:
++: I would like it to be a dominant force in society.
+: I think we need more of it.
/: Fine as it is / don't care either way.
-: I think there is too much of it.
--: I would like it to be marginalized or disappear as a social force.

Here is an example answer:
Government- Religion++ Nationalism+ Family/ Popular Culture-

I do not define these terms on purpose, because everyone has a different idea of what they mean. I want to measure people's personal attitude towards these concepts, not a fixed definition. If you dislike the question because it is too vague, then simply don't answer. Try to answer with as general an idea about the concept as possible (for example, if you dislike some governments but would like a certain form of government to become a dominant force in society, then answer ++).

You can give the reasons for your answers, but this is optional.

FULL DISCLOSURE: I am an atheist, but this survey does not seek to undermine any cultural group. This survey will be posted on many forums which cater to many different perspectives. As I will only note your answers and your general cultural group (i.e. atheist, Christian, socialist, etc), your answers will be kept anonymous.

Government--Religion--Nationalism--Family/popular culture--

Full Disclosure: I am nothing, I do not label myself, not even an agnostic. O, I believe in God; but God doesn't need my worship--that's why he has sheep, they could do my worshipping for me. I am nothing, if you label me then you negate me because maybe I believe in one thing from one portion of existence and another in another portion. For example, I have a mixed opinion about abortion. I believe it is wrong. However, I am glad for the child because born into a world of crap is not a life. I wish there were more abortions. No government. Complete anarchy. Smoking dope. Having unprotected sex. Life is supposed to be a party, not a task. No religion. Faith is for the needy and those who want. Nationalism is for american fruitcakes. Break up the family. A woman isn't worth a diamond. I rather sell my soul to the devil than a vampire. Popular culture. What the heck happened to mtv. It's all rap now. Rap is crap, that's why it rhymes with crap.

Well... i can't seem to answer these in the way you would like me to. See it's not as in too much or too little maybe with the exception of popular culture. So i added a question mark.

Government = well im not happy with government but not sure how i want it to change. Personaly i do class myself as socialist but i would have difficulty with enforcing my ideals as i know that many do not feel the same way, thus im liberal too. I think our attitudes need a radical overhaul though.

Religion = Well we need less organised religion for sure, i dont care about individual beleifs (and what they wear to school and church as long its modest and not extreme), im not bothered about churches/temples/mosques or about a politicians private beleifs, its just the political influence by certain religions on everyday people and politics that bothers me.

Nationalism = depends how you define it. For example national pride? I think thats fine as long as it isnt extreme. A person could be proud of their country or football team or whatever but not to the point of national socialism. Personaly i have little national pride but it really depends on the individual. I can say for example that im proud of my county, Yorkshire ( to a small point), but not to the point where i would exclude someone from another county/country or nationality form entering or having some sort of life here. What i would say is depending which country you enter and would live in (not holidays) - make that language for first language and leave your own language for the household and respect the cultural and ideals of that country.

Family Structure = I dont beleive in the "traditional" family. However you want your family is again up to the individual households. For example i think homosexual couples can bring up kids as well as heterosexual couples. It would however be a good idea to help say, if the gay couple are male, that they would find some sort of a female role model for their kids or encourage respect for females. And vice versa with gay female couples. Actually respect for other people is needed and should be a core value in all families.

Popular Culture = enough said, i cant stand this celebratory culture at the moment. Too much emphasis on it and they sometimes misbehave and being young persons role models of today.

This is but the tip of the iceberg on what i think :D

I agree with the family thing. It sounds Nazi like if our government will only let us have the "classic" family. One man, one woman, a boy, a girl, or whatever, that praise the Christain God. However, times have changed...BUSH. They should allow us to have and raise families the way we want to. "Traditional family values" is a joke to me. It's just a way to try to force Christainity over all of us and set limits to who can be in your family, in this "land of the free".
