I will give you an example. A patient needs a skin graft, big or small it doesn't really matter. The Dr. tells the patient that if they do not stop smoking the likelyhood that the skin graft will survive is not good. Most Doctors do not want to operate if they know its going to turn out badly. it is unacceptable for this Dr. to tell this patient that they need to find another Dr. to do this surgery who is more comfortable in this situation?

Personally I've never seen a Doctor tell a patient he would not to surgery because they smoke, but I would understand if they did.

If a doctor only wants to work on perfect people who are fairly healthy they shouldn't be doctors. Any doctor who refuse to help people runs or should run the risk of loosing their license. I feel the same way about Pharmists who don't fill prescriptions.

I said in my previous post that I've never seen a Dr. refuse to do surgery on a patient because they smoke. All I was saying is that I would understand if they referred the patient elsewhere if they refuse to stop smoking because they may have a bad outcome if they don't.
