Supreme Court rules against immigrants in temporary status seeking green cards

Mon June 7, 2021

WashingtonCNN —
The Supreme Court held on Monday that the government can block non-citizens who are in the US under a program that temporarily protects them from deportation in certain situations from applying for a green card if they entered the country unlawfully.

Justice Elena Kagan wrote for a unanimous court.

“Today’s decision is not just a setback for those immigrants currently in Temporary Protected Status who did not enter the United States lawfully; it also reinforces the barriers that Dreamers would face until and unless Congress provides a statutory path to some kind of permanent lawful status,” said Steve Vladeck, CNN Supreme Court analyst and professor at the University of Texas School of Law.

barriers that Dreamers would face until
The sad thing is that we have Dreamers in the grave already because of our government's inaction. Clean up the laws to make it easier for workers to enter. Quit playing political games with poor people.

I don't have the time to study this right now. (Family reunion). I know of one (a Venezuelan who came here legally) who is waiting for the green card lottery for his family to come here, quite apart from anything illegal such as wet-backing. —does this have any effect on his situation?

This is the piece I take issue with our current laws. If we just had a good and workable temporary worker system the issue of illegal immigration would be much less. Workers would come here fora season and then return home to their families rather then extend their stay here.

You posted the date of that article, but did you read it? Joe Biden was the President in 2021, not Trump.
The opinion was posted to shown that illegal immigrants including those in TPS Dreamers have no ability to obtain a green card to work or the ability to obtain citizenship as the Supreme Court has ruled

My posting had absolutely nothing to do with who was president at the time, but it was to show the US Supreme Courts ruling on illegal immigration as a whole

Oh okay. Sorry, sometimes people post stuff like that in protest of Trump. I thought that's what you were doing.

Clean up the laws to make it easier for workers to enter.
It took my sister in law 12 years to get a visa for her son. But her daughter was younger so it only took a few years to get her daughter approved.

Immigration Quotas:

There are quotas for certain categories of family-sponsored visas, which are part of the family preference system. These categories include:

  1. F1: Unmarried sons and daughters (21 years of age or older) of U.S. citizens.
  2. F2: Spouses and children of lawful permanent residents.
  3. F3: Married sons and daughters of U.S. citizens.
  4. F4: Brothers and sisters of U.S. citizens.

Immediate Relatives:

However, there are no quotas for immediate relatives of U.S. citizens, which include:

  • Spouses.
  • Unmarried children under 21.
  • Parents of U.S. citizens who are at least 21 years old.

  • Informative
