Support the troops

I agree, support the troops.

The troops during WW2 who rounded up the Japanese American citizens living in California, Oregon, and Washington and put them in gulags . . . were they also heros?

"support the troops" is meaningless as most people's support of them stops at a bumper sticker that makes them feel good and patriotic.

There are many fine members of the military who are honorable men and women. Personally, my view of the military is pretty low, as my girlfriend's time in the army nearly ruined her life. The military as an institution does grave evil not in that it does violence to others, but rather that it views the grunts who do all the sacrificing as expendable. Look at the denials of Gulf War Syndrome. Look at the soldiers in vietnam poisoned by Agent Orange. Look at the soldiers hung out to dry in courtmarshall hearings for war crimes while the officers who ordered the illegal activities skate away free. It's disgusting. The military is full of liars. The recruiters lie through their teeth to get young people to join up and then collect the extra cash when their quotas are met (I'm speaking from experience. I never met more dishonest people in my life than Army and Air Force recruiters). My girlfriend's brother just re-upped for another 4 years and within a week, the Army had broken several of the promises made in his reenlistment agreement. The Military asks us to support the young fighting men and women and then it turns around and stabs them in the back at every turn. Honorable soldiers are heroes. Dishonorable ones are villains.

The ones you mention in those circumstances were not heroes. The ones who bleed to protect their brothers and sisters are.

InnerPhyre, those are my sentiments entirely. People become soldiers too, thinking they are defending their country but as you say, they are seen as expendible. It's very very sad. Another example is standing solders in a line while they tested the nuclear bomb years ago, the government just uses them as guinea pigs etc. They should be heroes, but they are not welcomed back by the government as such, as politicians look sad one second as they announce the death of more service men and women, and the next second have a smirky grin on their faces as they declare how these sacrifices must be made.

Yes, support the troops(in whatever way that can be done), but don't support the selfish plans of the leaders, or the leaders themselves who send the soldiers into harms way for what is not for the security of the nation. They should be locked up imo...

If y'all truly want to support hte troops I have a list of addresses for Marines who are deployed in Iraq who aren't getting any mail at all...other than what I can send out...
There are nearly 50 Marines on that list...

I'm British and I really don't mind if you want to PM me a couple of names/addresses - or however it works - but I thought your own countrymen would have stepped up to the plate first? Whatever their position on the war.

But I'd be happy to send encouragement to those who need it. It's sad that some over there don't have anyone to contact them. If I can put a smile on someone's face in that situation then I will certainly do so.
