• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hello,

There is a ministry at my church where it's a support group meeting thing that meets once a week... oNe of the support groups is for people with depression. Well, my counselor wants me to go, and I ended up getting that night off of work every week, so I am all set up to go. Should I be scared of going? Does anyone else have good/bad experiences in them? Remember, I'm not a person that publically states that I'm depressed... I'm afraid to tell anyone, even a counselor! I am going to church in a little bit to check the ministry out and see if I even can get in it. I'm sure if it is closed, I still can get it becaue my counselor is the head of the ministry! Anyways, i'm rambling now. Are support groups helpful or not?

good luck, I hope it helps ya! God bless, and I agree, support groups are a blessing from God, there isn't really anything like that where I live, especially not for teenagers, but, from talking to friend that feel the same as me, it at least helps to know I'm not alone, go for it! and good luck!

Hi servant4ever -
I am so glad for you, that you went to the group and liked it. God used groups like that to make a huge difference in my life. I love them so much that I've been leading support and recovery groups for years now, whenever I get the chance.

You will find you are not alone there, that many in various ways have traveled the road you've been on, and they'll be able to share with you their experience, strength, and hope in God that has made a difference in them. And someday you'll probably be helping others the same way. Here's how I summarize recovery groups: in-depth discipleship.

Another thing - in most groups, the only requirement is that you say your first name. You don't have to say another word if you don't want to. The pressure is off. But I bet sooner or later you'll want to open up.

God bless you, friend. This could be one of the most important things you'll ever do. I'll pray for you.

Aloha in Jesus
