  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

The article kept saying that it would be the first time someone broke the sound barrier outside an aircraft. This is incorrect: ThrustSSC - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

But it would be the first time, so far as I know, that someone broke the sound barrier outside a vehicle.

The speed of sound varies with environmental conditions, as you partially note. This link, Speed of sound - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, contains tables that show variation with temperature and other things.

763 mph is approximately 341 m/s. You'll find that that value falls in the middle of the chart at +15 degrees C.

Well you make a good point. When I read through the link in the OP something didn't sit right in that phrase you pointed out, but my mind isn't functioning real well today and I didn't think of the land speed records. Other vehicles have gone *pretty fast* on US salt flats, and during one attempt the speed of sound was only 731 mph!

Anyway this guy is doing something completely different, that I thought some might find interesting. Like going up in a balloon that's 600' across?!?
