  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The things you described (turning your life around) are products of religion, not just of Christianity. If you "found Krishna", your life would still be better than when you were boozing.

This is a fact of sorts, because, of course, not only Christians get "visitations from God" and turn their lives around.

I think the OP requested that we don't critique others' experiences, and I can understand why. Nobody will share their experiences if criticizing is part of the thread, as they'll be afraid of others breaking the whole thing down.

As for the Darren Brown thing-any people who believe in the supernatural here have a response to that? I know I have my ideas, but it would be good if someone with a good grasp of english and logic could formulate a rebuttal. ;)

On the contrary, I much prefer it if people criticize what I say. I hate to jump to conclusions when it comes to the supernatural, because 99% of the time, there's a perfectly natural explanation for it. I'd hate to delude myself, so if there's a more rational explanation for anything I've experienced, I want to hear it.

I wouldn't call it a more "rational" explination, more one that simply assumes the supernatural can't exist.

For example, if I am in my room, and suddenly I see a being in the corner of my eye, and a number of objects fly across the room-the common "rational" response to this would be "you are deluded" or "you imagined it". If you were posessed by a spirit and experienced it being driven out of you, the natural explination would be that you had a mental disease which coincidentally was cured by invoking the name of a loving God (perhaps doctors should simply treat all mental patients by asking entities to leave in God's name, eh?)

However, if someone experiences such things and considers themselves as perfectly sane, hearing others fumble about for natural explinations is annoying and unhelpful. You can explain away anything if you're sceptical enough; but just because you have offered a "natural" explination, doesn't neccessarily mean it is the right one. Try telling someone who has been afflcited with negative spiritual forces for years on end and delivered in one moment by invoking the name of Jesus that the entire thing was a set of delusions and coinsidences-no doubt, such an exiplination sounds more rational, but from the point of view of the person in question, it's laughable to dismiss their experiences as delusions, paranoia, insanity, etc.

First of all, I'm a big skeptic, but here are mine.

I saw a UFO years ago. Even had the little green dude, well not really, but I did see one. The unit had a white glow, and the manuervering was such that any know traditional piece of military hardware would have self distructed due to the G loading. I still think its some radical military hardware that has yet to be made public, but then again... that was some amazing technology combined with no sonic boom.

Next was when I worked at a Bible camp. They got a deal on the land, which had some interesting history. First it was an Native American graveyard (even had the burial mounds in some areas), then it became a mafia nightclub, and hangout. Supposedly a lot of folks got murdered there. Then when Al Capone and crew got taken out, some churches bought it.

Some odd thngs that happened.
1. as the maintenance guy, one cabin always had its lights turning on and off at random, even when we were closed on the weekend. I could never figure that out, as it still happened after I replaced everything with new. I figured some animal was messing with the switch, but no such evidence presented itself.

2. everyonce in a while, one of us would get rained on, despite no clouds in the sky, and being in an open field

3. we had one counselor, who was into the occult (strange for a bible camp to hire her.... but it took a while for her to talk about it, so the interviewers probably didn't know, and she was quite biblically literate. On most weekends we were closed, only a few of the staff stayed around. One saturday evening, I hear screaming (for some reason, it seemed to happen a lot, for a variety of reasons, a mouse in the paper towel dispenser in the ladies can was the funniest), so I go down to the lodge to check it out. She said there were these greyish black figures running all over the place. She was scared to death... and then a couple of the staff get rained on again, now things are getting pretty hysterical amongst the group So I prayed with her and read some scripture. At which point, she told me I was glowing. She stuck around for the week, but them resigned. It was a bizarre experience. Had it not been for these unusual drenchings, and other screwball things that happend, drug use would have been my thoughts. However, the combination of all the other wierd stuff made me think that her story was credible (with the exception of me glowing of course).
