We keep a few movies on hand for exceptions; showing clips of these might help them make the connection between their normal lives and church:
Angels in the Outfield
Joseph, animated
Facing the Giants
Evan Almighty
Veggie Tales collection (younger)

Even though kids that age are capable of sitting still, it helps to introduce a variety of activities, and shift every 5-10 minutes. They love challenges -- scramble Bible verse words, quiz them and give a prize, bring in maps that might coincide with what they're learning in school, and ask for prayer requests.
Think of the senses -- sight, hearing, sound, smell, taste... and different types of learning -- kinesthetic/movement, spatial visual, auditory/language-oriented, and logical/analytical. Introduce a little of each.
I try different ways of taking prayer requests, and find it helpful for a student/s to write them on a board and even pray for them as they are given.
