• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I got lucky and didn't end up with any scars on my arms, really... except for a couple I can easily pass off as scratched mosquito bites. I have one really bad scar on my leg, hough, and I have to wear ridiculously long shorts to hide it from my dad. I mean, I always wear loose, almost knee length shorts, but they have to come down to the bottoms of my knees at least, or they'll slide up too far if I bend my legs, and even so, my brother will NOT stop asking me about that scar...:( Of course, I conveniently discovered these nifty little sweatbands that I wear around my wrists... AFTER I stopped cutting! :D:doh: Eh, oh well... they're nifty anyways. ;) Grrr... evil scars... I wouldn't mind them if only I wasn't trying to keep my dad from freaking out over the one on my leg! I really need to come up with a good excuse or something...

Darling, I would just say to them, "I have had problems, but I am healing now. Thankyou for asking!" then, if you can, just move away and get your mind to concentrate on something else.

This is excellent advice. I used to reply along those lines whenever someone would ask about my scars. Recently I've gone back to lies and feeble excuses, which actually makes me feel worse about myself. Thank you for reminding me that I don't need to be ashamed, and that I can be honest without divulging too much unnecessary information.
